Could I have some advise please ? MPG,Turbos and options !

Featured Replies

I'll start with a hello all and thank you for reading this.!

Just bought a 02 plated tdi octavi .. great piece of kit !!! However .... this is where i need the advice please ! I have searched through the forums so hopefully I won't annoy too many people (apologies if I do in advance :) )

I seem to be averaging around 49.8 mpg ..A road driving, town driving ... forums would seem to indicate this is a little low ? Was thinking of changing the maf .... but would like opinions from people here .. may just be me !

My turbo seems to start whining around the 1500 rpm mark .. is this normal ? I come from a HDI 406 (goes to wash mouth out .....) and that didn't kick in until nearly 3k ...

I guess the other question is would an ecu remap improve the mpg ? I am aware they can boost power so theoretically could reduce acceleration fuel use .. .

If you've made it this far ... thanks !!!

Iain

ps yes it does pull to the left slighty and occasionally the windscreen wipers have a rest .... but I will get there ! answers provided already by the forum :)

Which engine does it have?

If you look at the options sticker (usually in the front of the service log book and in the boot), the engine code is half way down the left hand side.

MPG doesn't seem to bad, for that type of driving and with it being so cold at the moment. My TDI 110 can average 65 on the trip computer if keep it to 70 on the motorway but general running around is high 40's low 50's.

I originally asked the same question regarding the turbo noise and got mixed responces, I dont really hear mine with the windows up unless I really listen but windows down can hear it spool up from 1500. I think part of the problem is like a friend said to me I was listening for problems as it was a new car to me and he said he hadn't noticed the turbo noise till I pointed it out. Mine pulls really well accross full rev range, doesn't smoke or use oil and noise hasn't changed in 3000mile so Iam running with its fine!

sounds about right, the mpg's will get better as the summer comes, winter fuel is not so effieient and the engine is always running cold too.

oh and welcom to brisky

It appears to be the 81kw ASV !

thanks to everyone ... keep them coming !!!

Given the style of driving, those mpgs seem about normal. Having sorted out my turbo I hear it from about 1500rpm, my old 306HDI came in later, around 2500-2700 iirc. I normally see mid 50s while doing the NSL on twisty A and B roads of Dorset and Wiltshire. Motorway miles (especially when driving for work) I can see figures closer to 65-70 if I plod along (and why not when the company are pay for my time - not my speeding tickets!)
