Rear upper strut brace on the VRS........

Featured Replies

I've noticed this on the Forge website - do they do much good? I make these for older style polo's and may make myself up one!!!

I want one, do you have to cut stuff to fit them?

ISTR that even Forge admit they're vanity items, although I'm prepared to be corrected...

Nope, pretty sure it's a straight fit. My mate has one on his SE.

Fitted mine about 2 years ago. They're a pain if you have seats in as they restrict the loadspace dramatically when the seats are folded down.

The solution? Take out the seats :giggle:

Do they work? Rear end feels a bit tighter and planted. That is all.

You'll have to cut a small hole (size of a 50p) in each side of the boot carpet just infront of the rear arches to allow the mounting lugs through. You'll also need a BFO adjustable spanner to tighten the brace.

bam i have one too, did seem slightly different once fitted although not very noticable, does look good though

Where can I order one from? Anyone selling theirs?

Forge sell them on their website.

I got one of these a while back. Easy to fit - looks great and made a positive difference to the handling. Car turns in better and feels sharper. Do it! :)

Haha, what a load of rubbish. Didn't realise the rear end of the car and roof was made out of chocolate

3TL's car isn't exactly standard. He's probably asking a lot more questions of it than most. Standard car, standard suspension, that's a different matter.

By the same token, neither is Sy.'s (check his sig).

That said and done, the arguments for and against strut braces of any type for the fabia rage long and hard, so Sy.'s comment is not surprising.

I'm going to make my own one up and give it a try! :) Give me something to strap my subbox to/under!

I PM'd you quite a while ago, saying I know where to get them from for £76.50 delivered.......

It makes a difference, HOWEVER it's got to be VERY tight.

As in I've screwed mine in using a breaker bar to put a massive ammount of torque in it.

Lol, I never said anything about standard car.

The rear end of a car is pretty dam strong if you ask me. You can smash it into a wall at 30mph and it'll move but not alot.

Strut bars are money earners. I have one on the front because I got it second hand and it cost me £20. Did I notice a difference?? No haha, you think it's different but its in your head.

We're not talking impact force, we're talking lateral forces.

THat argument's a bad one........ Take a piece of corrugated carboard.........You can't compress it with the insides facing towards you.

Turn it 90 degrees, and you can bend it piece of ****.

Impact force? I was saying the rear end is fairly strong (well I thought I was) correct me if I am wrong. Didnt realise the back of the furby was a piece of cardboard with it faced towards you.

Trust me I work in the motorsport industry and our race car doesnt have a strut brace even on the front.

Do what you want, buy all the fancy visual items because that is all they are. Save your money and buy a thicker arb

Had a Forge one on the estate and have one for the MPi, didnt pay for either of them directly but I think they are a nice little mod. Never fitted one on its own to know if it makes a massive difference but I like to think so, happy with it. Plus yeah it looks cool.

I don't doubt your expertise and experience but I would have thought the purpose of a strut was to reduce flex at different rates to smacking it against a wall.

i.e the duration of G's pulled is different therefore its not strictly a valid evaluation.

e.g. I drop a phone off the table, this will cause 2000+ G's at a fraction of a second. If I push with my finger 300 G's i think it may break it pretty quickly.

I suppose race car set ups is that the CG is lower (plus suspension set up is much better) thus the upper 'sway' can be counteracted by simply adding thicker arbs? :S

Interesting stuff though, love to learn about these things, shame I chose elec route..

Trust me, I work on Jet engines using SC03 calculating flex and stress on a regular basis.

It's not a piece of cardboard, there's no need to act a ****.

Oh what race car do you work on? Surely if it's a race car, it's gonna be seam welded, and a massive weld in cage anyway?

OK people lets not get carried away here please.

Its a Fabia and a shiny bit of metal, doesnt need to be read much more into it than that.

Only a £20k 5 second fill up fuel cell which is all alloy cased, but what would I know about strut bars....haha

Will leave this post now. If people want to buy a fancy looking bar and restrict there boot then hey. Thats what helps the economy tick

Should be heavily discounted shiny bits of metal what with the recession and all ;):D

Maybe they do something, maybe they don't. I wouldn't class myself as good enough to know the difference. For sure the fabia's got a tough little shell.

At the front? To get MORE understeer? Surely not!

Is that what the title reads?
