Featured Replies

Hi all,

has anyone fitted smaller alloys/steels and put winter tyres on their vRS? trying to find out what tyres are suitable im ok with the 205/55R16 but its the number that follows, ive seen plenty 205/55R16 91H for sale but wasnt sure if the octy tdi vrs needs Extra load tyres or higher load rating? (sorry car isnt here to check) is this still requred if alloy is smaller etc

just wondering what any of you have bought and fitted?

cont t380s great tyres ( will check in the morning if nobdy posts the info needed)

hi i had bought some 16" audi alloys and some pirelli sottozero tyres. i think they were a regular loading rating. grip in the snow, and snow on ice was much improved, sheet ice was still tough going (although i never got stuck).. i dont recommend them as such as they did create a fair amount of road noise above 50mph.

my van runs continental winters on rear, and pirelli Chronos on the front, no/marginal road noise increase, serious grip tho.

i would check the side of the tyre but someone stole my car 2 days ago.

I had been driving 16" in winter on BBS wheels. First two winters with Continental TS810 in 91H, last two winters with Dunlop 3D in 94V.

Although the Dunlops had a higher speed rating, they where far superior than the Contis. In wet, dry and especially in snow (much grippier).

From the comfort side the contis where a tad quieter than the dunlops.

someone has told me the octy vrs tdi tyres are 92Y extra load but they arent 100% sure. so im guessing 205/55R16 91H will not have a high enough load rating?

It does for the H rated tyre, here in Germany they are very strict about the load indexes.

The 92Y extra load is for the std 225/40 18 size tyres.

If you want a 205/55 16 tyre with a V speed index, the minimum load index should be 93. (most tyres have 94 in V)

This load index is needed if you want to drive the tyres to the maximum of 240km/h with a fully loaded Octy VRS.

The maximum load at 240km/h on a V (or higher) rated tyre should be 91% or less of the allowed load of the index. Otherwise the tyre

you are legally not allowed to drive at this speed. (a bit irrelevant in GB)

Thats what i have on mine, same size and load they are michelin alpin a4's and they work great in the last lot of snow, no drama no sideways not stuck anywhere even on on the hilly country lanes on untreated compact snow

91 is a 615 Kg load and H is 130 mph wont be doing that in this weather

thanks for the reply mate,

so does everyone think the 91H will be sufficient for the TDi vRS?

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/182540-evaluation-of-a-scout-for-met-police/

According to the report referenced above, the maximum static wheel load on the Scout, fully loaded, was 573kg compared to 615kg according to the '91' rating.

The Scout is delivered with '94' rated tyres, so I would go with that, but for the 2wd variants most are deleivered with '91' tyres anyway, so I wouldn't worry.

Les.

just checked the cars current tyres and they have 92Y XL (extra load) should this mean i only fit extra load winter tyres?

Extra load tyres are £25 dearer...... More snow today

Buy the H rated & stay below 120mph. Simples. :p

what about the load rating being lower? 91 instead of the standard 92 extra load?

Having done some research these are what I was thinking of for next year are they much more expensive and are there any downsides when not on ice or snow cheers Nic
