Fuel filler flap not closing

Featured Replies

Finished work at 11.00 last night and desperately needed some diesel (was rushing on way into work and didnt have time). Stopped to fill up and pulled the release lever, nothing happened. The flap was frozen so pushed and pulled it a little to try and dislodge the frost, then "pop" it opened. Now the bloody thing wont close and is irritating the hell out of me.

Have searched for a similar topic but cant find one. Has anyone else suffered the same problem at some point?

Pull the boot carpet down on that side, the plastic collor which works like a grommet has poped out of the hole, just poke it back in and it will be fine (unless your wiggling has snaped somethign)

This happened to me, Its just a cold issue. Get some luke warm water and pour over the flap. It should then close. I just left mine open o the drive and when it warmed up it shut fine

Nah it wont be that. The release flap works, it was just frozen on the seal so its not popping

Yes I had the same problem a few weeks ago when it was really cold.

I just left it for an hours journey, and by that time the car was warm enough for it to close.

Just leave it till mid day and push it to close

And if it pops open again, just have a little look back there :smirk:

Ok will wait til later and see if it works then, although I am a tad sceptical that it will be any better. Fair enough the cold wont let it open, but when I push it closed it doesnt seem to engage with the metal tag/thingy.

Great stuff mate, much appreciated.

Not looked yet, but I think it might be that, the release lever didnt feel right when I tried to open it.

If it wont close then its the bit of plasic pipe that connects to the back of the filer cap and then to the handle next to the seat. The plastic pipe will have come out so when you pull the lever it does nothing but also will not shut. you need to find the wire down the side of the rear seats and follow it till the end then pop the whole filer section out the car, plug it back in, then replace the section you removed. It sounds harder than it is but you just have to pull the whole filer area out the body work, it has one screw to the left hand side when you look at it and thats all that hold it in. Remove it and just wiggle it out. Let us know if you need anymore info :)

Bummer. Sounds like a job for the weekend, actually from what you say I dont think it will be too bad. Will take the rear seat out and have a look.

Thanks for all the advice, Briskoda comes to the rescue once again!

ok

Check that area first.....make sure it is all sitting tight.

My first month of having the car it did it! opend the cap, wouldent close. that was the problem

Happend to me last week.

It wouldn't engage the clip, pulled the boot carpet down and sure enough the thing had dislodged. Takes about 10 seconds.

Went to fix my filler flap today. Just happended to push it shut and it worked fine! Nice easy fix lol.

There is a small back plastic "thing" to the left of the filler cap that sticks out just in front of the metal "thing" I think that when the area was frozen over this bit wouldnt spring back to retain the flap (dunno if that makes sense).

Anyway job done, thanks for the advice ;)
