Fabia VRS - Motorway MPG/Newbie Help

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Possible newbie here (long time lurker though!!), currently have a e46 330 to do my 100 mile daily commute to work and back & whilst its an awesome car, & supremely commfortable, £6 a gallon for 30 miles isnt doing my wallet any good these days ..... as such, im considering coming to the darkside, ie derv.

The VRS has a great reputation on Pistonheads, holds its value well & comes with the 'more reliable 1.9 130 lump' as opposed to the problematic 2.0 140 engine, hence why im shying away from a slightly larger Audi A4, etc, so i thought id do some digging over here :)

Essentially, i have a 182 Trophy track car for weekends/fun, so the Fab would purely be used for trundling up & down the M3 every morning & evening to get to work & back. It wouldnt be modified, at all, even a remap is 2 x track days, so im simply not interested lol. For reference, I do on average 30-35k per year.

Being a BMW driver, i tend to stick to the outside lane, doing 75-85 leptons, so am interested in what sort of mpg i should expect. Also are there any other major issues to worry about, i presume that the VAG-COM i use on my gf's TT will work on it? And that a cambelt/water pump change at 60k is preferable?

Whats the cost of a clutch as well, its bound to go in the 100k that ill keep the car for.

Thanks

Dave

At 75-80mph I get around 50mpg if I remember right.

The car is super on the motorway and will sit at them speeds all day long a still get great mpg

you've pretty much answered your own questions about the car

i don't know about the clutch though.

I ran down to Devon over Xmas

65-80 on the motorway got 60.8mpg

did 50 miles round the villages down there and then came back slightly quicker

Average speed for the whole journey was 60+ and MPG 57.

On my commute into London (27 miles M1/A406) average is 55mpg

Thats way better then the 2.7v6 was doing at 29mpg for the same commute

I did a run to Edinburgh and back over the new year. 5 of us in the fully loaded car, and not exactly driving like a granny, I got 50.7mpg

I'd work on 50mpg as an average

on the motorway i can easily see 50-55mpg no problem
