Duel Mass Flywheel

Featured Replies

Is it possible to make a duel mass flywheel fail earlier? Odd question I know but I know it's on its way out and the dealer is saying at the moment it's not bad enough to replace under warranty. I've done 45000 miles and I'm told the warranty will only cover it up2 60,000 miles.

When/if it comes to replace the DMF I'll replace it with a SMF and just pay for the new clutch and hopefully job done.

Any advise welcomed.

Don't try this at home kids......................you could if you so wished, try constantly labouring the engine (too high a gear with too low revs and accelerate)

but seriously, there is a good chance you can convince the dealer over the next 15000miles, be persistant.

]tell the dealer that you are not happy with his service and if hes not going to sort it out you'll be forced to take your business else where.also i changed a dual mass flywheel on a boraand the noise was still there, it turned out to be the altnators free flowing pully had siezed

I have had 2 DMF's on my vRS 170. Also, the 2nd time they replaced it they also did the clutch.

I noticed a vibration/rumbling when pulling away at low speeds in low gear (eg, in between speed bumps in 3rd) and had heard about DMF issues so got it checked out. They replaced the DMF under warranty. The 'problem' was still there though so they had it in again and sought advice from Skoda technical who advised to replace clutch as well. When I got the car back, unbelievably, it was just the same!! This time I took the 'master' tech from the dealership out on a test drive and showed him exactly what I was experiencing. He said that the vibes I was feeling were not the DMF but just me trying to pull away at too low a speed for the gear. I said that if thats true how come they have replaced the DMF twice already? His answer was that Skoda have been jumping on the DMF problem to keep customers happy and mine probably never needed one in the first place.

I was happy with his explanation and he also explained to me exactly what to expect when the DMF starts to deteriorate. To date I have had no issues and have a new clutch as well!!

I was not offered a SMF as an option and (from memory) it was not the best way to go on my engine??

This is what I was thinking of doing, I'll report my progress lol.

Yes 45,000 miles but as a taxi driver it's only low mileage as I only do 40 hours a week.
