New tyres needed in 14inch!

Featured Replies

Tis the time again when I'll be needing new tyres.

Done 18,000 miles from this set of Goodyear ecodrive/ecocrap/dont know, so not too bad considering how hard I slide the car around on my daily 60mile commute.

Any suggestions for best tyre places to go?

So far I've checked out Kwik Fit online, and they are asking around £230 fitted - is that a good price?

Bearing in mind, small 185/60/14 (H?? i'm guessing) branded tyres (ie Goodyear Ecogrip/some crap, or Dunlop Sport)

Anyone else care to share what branded 14 inch tyres should be costing fitted?

Try Blackcircles.com Kwikfit is generally expensive, even on the net.

Thats about right, Unless you have a local tyre fitter which might sort you out with a better deal

mytyres have dunlop sport 01, for £37.50, i don't know how much fitting would be, but allowing for £10 per tyre, you would have all 4 done for £188.

yeh just spotted that too

seems like the best idea so far

Anyone used these tyres before?

I was looking recently (opted for a set of RainSport2s in 15s) and got them from here. They were the cheapest I found, and I can't fault them (the retailer) in anyway at all, except the slightly suspect looking website.

Had Dunlop sport 20XXs on before, these are much nicer. Quiter, comfier and I think they're going to handle better (still wet here so. . .)

Vredestein Hi-Tracs are what we run in that size. A few years ago they won the Auto-express tyre test with that tyre in that size.

Likewise here - I've run three sets on a Fabia TDi estate and would wholly recommend them - excellent tyre and good value. Great grip in the wet and still good in the dry, quiet and wear well.

Update:

I went and bought some Dunlop Sport Fast Response tyres from mytyres.co.uk

Think it was £175 delivered.

Had them fitted at a local garage for £40 today.

Set the tyre pressures when I got home to the same as i had before (2.2 back, 2.3 front)

Initial impressions so far is that they are noisy and bumpier than the Goodyear EcoGrip (or whatever they were called), which is very disappointing.

Too early to say what they are like when pushed, but defiantly not enjoying the fact they are noisey AND bumpier than before!

I hate my Dunlop Sports 20something. Loud, not too grippy, bad in the wet, spin up easily and uncomfy (compared to the RainSport2s) as said above. Two of mine perished too, way before wearing out. Not what you wanted to hear, sorry.

Yeh I was always quite impressed with the Goodyears I had before tbh. Very quiet, good ride, and grip levels seemed fine wet or dry, didn't need them to do anything more..

I just fancied trying something different this time.

Maybe in hindsight I should have just gone for the Goodyears again, they were available at the same price too!
