Picked up my 140 4x4 DSG

Featured Replies

I got my black estate elegance 140 4x4 yesterday and I have driven it approx 150km since then. Here are some of my first impressions.

The dealer was nice and explained some of the extras for me. I had ordered a roofrack to fit my skibox to, but I found it a bit high so he is exchanging it with anotherone which I will pick up tomorrow. He also threw in the umbrella and touch up pen when I asked for it. However, he failed to inform me about needing a special cable for the MDI, so I couldn´t connect my iphone straight away as the cable will arrive tomorrow. (I only have GSM II so I can´t stream music by BT).

The black leather seats seems like good quality, and the stitching makes it look a little rough, which I personally like. Also the 3 spoked steering wheel is comfortable to hold and turn.

The haldex system works great so far, I have driven on some snow packed roads and some roads with salted snow (the worst ever) and I have only seen the traction control light a couple of times. I have however easily thrown it into skids on a parkinglot to see how it reacts.

I am pretty impressed by the adaptive bi-xenon, it is really bright and together with the front foglighs it really lights up everything. The engine was as expected, I haven´t reved it up much, but there is no need to anyways as the momentum is noticable from 2000rpm. (Trying to break in the engine gently).

The panorama roof has not been used yet (snowing since I got the car) but using it as a moonroof is really nice. However, I am conserned about the glass roof fogging up on the inside due to condensation. Where does that water go?

I love KESSY and DSG, can hardly wait untill the engine is broken in so I can start driving more sprited and make use of the DSG shift on the steering wheel.

A few minor things bother me though:

The on/off mark on the volume button on the columbus turns when you turn the knob, it would have been much nicer if it had stood still. I can work around this by using the volume control on the steeringweel instead.

The cover for the cupholders looks like it belongs in the 80s, will have to keep it fully opened ;)

I can not set the Webasto to turn on on more than 3 occations. I would have liked the opportunity to set it for every weekday at 0630 and and 1530.

BTW: All Skoda, Wolkswagen and Audi registered in Norway after January 3rd has 5 year warranty, glad I got mine now and not earlier

I will post pictures after the weekend

Lucky you. I am really envious! :)

Hello,

How much was the Webasto option and where do you make the settings?

Well, In Norway, where everything is more expensive then anywhere else, it was about 1000 GBP. I set the presets by using the maxidot or I can start it manually by remote or on the climate control as well. It can not be combined with heated windshield though, so you have to choose one or the other. I never had any doubt about choosing webasto over heated windshield, it is a nice feeling to get into a warm car in the morning emoticon-0148-yes.gif

After last winter and this winter I think It will be something I will seriously consider when I upgrade...

Thanks

What is a Webasto?

What is a Webasto?

It is basically a 'night heater' as used in all trucks with a sleeper cab.

It runs on diesel and is a pretty simple but very effective way of heating the interior up.

Congrats on the purchase of your Superb, sounds like a lovely model.

Can you take a few photos of the KESSY system please, I have yet to see this system on a Superb and am very curious about it.

Thank you!

Happy New Car :D

Hmm, 5 year warranty eh... I wonder how long it will be before that appears in the UK.

Glad you enjoying your new car, there has been plenty of debate on the subject but I think you should go on and have some fun, use the engine a bit harder to run it in and get the oil control and consumption down quickly.

Are you sure? I also have "GSM II" and can easily stream music via BT on my (nokia) phone.

I managed to stream it by BT eventually, it came up after I played with the phone. However now that I got the cable it found out some other issues. If I connect the iphone by cable before it has connected by BT it will switch the audio from cable to BT after there is a BT connection, as the iphone wants to use the last connected connection. Also streaming spotify by cable, then receiving a call makes it switch to ipod audio instead of audio from spotify. I have turned the autoplay on BT option on the columbus off, as leaving that option on forced me to bluetooth rather than cable. I had theese problems on my pioneer headunit in my old car aswell, but it was a little less hassle to operate the iphone when it was mounted on my dash rather then placed in the armrest compartment. Don´t get me wrong, it works great and I am very happy, the issues I have are with the iphone rather than the columbus.

I have the same vehicle- minus a few options- arriving in the next few weeks (black 140 4x4 DSG estate).

I'm interested to know how the CR140 compares to the 170 diesel engine. The 170 wasn't available as an option with 4x4 in New Zealand unfortunately. I opted for 4x4 because I drive over alpine passes in the winter. Also interested to talk about winter tyre options. People in New Zealand rarely use winter tyres, so no-one knows much about them. This may be covered in another thread.

Hi kiwi jim and welcome to the forum!

Since I for dubious reasons B) have chosen the 170 I can not speak for the 140 version. But I'll guess that you will not miss the 30 hp much unless you use your car fully loaded with family, gear and stuff and/or towing something. You will probably enjoy the lower consumption of the 140 though. Regarding the winter tires: It all depends of what kind of roads you drive on. Icey roads (especially black ice) and steep hills (alpine passes?): Maybe studded ones, snowy roads; then non studded. The former will get a noisier car on cleared roads, the latter will have a longer breaking distance on most surfaces (not snowy). The other guys on here will probably have other opinions. Read'em, look for some winter tire test on the net and use your own judgment.

There is a winter tyre thread in the Octavia II section if you want to check that out.

PhilPix and myself both have winters fitted to our 4x4 170's at present - Phil's running Avon's on Thermisto 18" rims, and i'm running Vredestine WintracXtreme's on Luxon 18" Rims, both in standard sizes.

They are excellent in the wet and snow; the make the 4x4 superb into a very quick, and safe winter vehicle.

That drives my wife mad - the Bolero in my Octavia is the same. She likes things in neat rows all the right way up. Must admit to turning it occasionally to wind her up :giggle:

She also cannot get her head around touch screens - she hates the greasy finger marks on the screen and is forever wiping it. :wonder:

I've got the winters on black alloys now Al.

I've cleaned and stored the Themistos with the Contis for Spring and Summer which round here are two days in June!

LOL!

Glad I'm not the only Skoda driver with OCD.......drives me nuts in my vRS when the missus turns it down using the knob. I immediately turn it back up then use the steering wheel! :smirk:

I'm well miffed by this. Same cars as here in the UK yet we only get a 3 year warranty...

My sadly daparted Audi A2 also had a diesel powered Webasto. They only came on the diesel versions since diesels take so long to heat up. Only worked below 5 degrees mind. Always enjoyed seeing the steam come off my car in FOUR places in the winter as I scraped the windscreen: the rear exhaust, the two heated mirrors and the baby front Webasto exhaust!

As to the volume marker! Drat! I've not noticed that on my Bolero before but I bet you I will now forever notice it and want it pointing up too! emoticon-0124-worried.gif

I wouldn't be surprised if this Skoda introduced this once the backlog of orders has been cleared, because if there's any cars likely to go wrong... it'll be the ones built in a hurry...!!

Very nice, enjoy it. Sounds like a nice spec

Look forward to photos.

Still trying to talk my Dad into getting a Superb Combi next, but I think he still has Skoda 'issues', about the badge :dull:

Hmmm. And here in Belgium, they only get a 2 year warranty.

Something is not right!

Never mind, they pay about twice as much for their cars in Norway compared to UK and Belgium, so you are still better off! ;)
