lack of power?

Featured Replies

hi all,

just driven my oct mk1 1.9tdi and it seems to lack power :(

scanned it for fault codes- 1 code present, 17958 charge pressure present malfuction.. any ideas whats causing this? is there a pressure sensor or something? (are we talking map sensor? or maf sensor?)

any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

cheers- that looks a good site  although dont want the last fault- 'turbo charger deffective' :'(

You'd know if it was beyond redemption. Could just be that an Italian Tune-Up is called for! :)

Could well be the sticky turbo problem, is it the 110bhp engine?

sticky turbo seems most common for the 110, but generally that logs a different fault code - "over-boost detected". I would go for n75 or MAF to start with. If you have vagcom can you check that MAF readings are within range?

I used to get a 17965 error "Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation" which is the overboost error caused by the sticky turbo vanes. Slightly different code, so as mbames says go for the N75 or MAF in the first instance.

give it a good ragging down the road  fair play- there is a spagetti junction of air hoses for the turbo  i might just replace them all with leak off pipe.. :)

One long pipe between the n75 and the turbo.... then additional pipes for EGR, anti-shudder, and some other stuff.....

yeh- its the 110, i read somewhere you can disconnect the n75v and plug the hoses to bypass it? ant thoughts?

just drove it and its fine now, so im guessing not turbo vanes, intermitent fault with n75 valve?.. im gonna try living with it.. as tps wants mega money.. although there are two octys in the scrappy by me.. might take a trip up and get the n75..

N75 for mine from tps was 40 quid. Much dearer for the tdi?

i am right in thinking it is the sensor bolted to the bulkhead with 1 electical connector two vac pipes (1 down to turbo and one goes into the spagetti junction of vac pipes?) ;)
