I'm very tempted to sign up to this but I have a few questions:

1. How much is helmet hire and where can you hire them from?

2. Do you have to prep your car for a tow hook and tape up lights etc.?

3. Does anyone bother with track insurance?

Totally agree, also everyone is in the same boat and take pride in their cars. Its nothing like some tool on the motorway running late for work, half asleep and getting changed for work whilst driving! Best way to approach the track is to start at a steady pace, and you should naturally get faster as long as you have a nice smooth driving style.

1 - £10 an hour (i think) available from the circuit but numbers are limited although any old helmet will pass the "checks" (is it done up?)

It will be my first time on track. I'm just annoyed there is no Castle Combe circuit on Gran Turismo 5.

If you bring your own helmet does it have to rated? Only reason I ask is that I have a downhill mountain bike helmet that I could use but it's not rated for motorbike use. Would that be Ok to use?

Not sure on this one. I would email someone at Castle Combe with the specs and see what they say. I just use an open faced budget motorsport helmet, so would probably think a D/H bike one would be OK, but I wouldn't like to say for certain.

I've never seen or been subjected to a more in depth check than "is it on your head and is it done up"

And i'm sure i've got pics of a guy driving a 900bhp evo 9 with an down hill mountain bike helmet on although it could of course be a Moto-X helmet

Ok, I've just had a look on the castle combe website faq's page and found this:

Do I need to bring my own crash helmet/overalls etc or do you supply them?

Helmets are compulsory and should be to BS116658 or ECE22-05 spec. Helmet straps to securely done up. Please bring your own or hire one at the organisers office in the Strawford Centre.

That's cleared it up for me so looks like I wouldn't be able to use my DH helmet :(

If you fancy doing this kind of thing in the future, a proper helmet is around £50-£60. Mine has now paid for itself many times over circuit hire charges.

Ok, I've just had a look on the castle combe website faq's page and found this:

I'd take that with a pinch of salt as it's from the full track day FAQs rather than the Action Day.

I've done a couple of these Briskoda track sessions and attended many other days and never seen a helmet being investigated/checked.

I use my DH mountain bike helmet for all the track days I do, also Combe have never complained about it

Is there anybody travelling from the north who is staying locally the night before as I intend to?

IMS is coming from Doncaster, Chrisw880 from Darwen, and jaymd from Macclesfield, but I don't know their plans. No one else on the list at the moment is from what I deem "ooop north"

I won't be staying overnight as I will be doing the trip in one day, like last time

What time do you have to be there if you are having track time?

Ok well I'll probably head for a premier inn on the 8th as it's a fair treck from York that way I'm fresh for the track
