interior light problem

Featured Replies

what or where can i find what controls the interior light ? problem is it does not go off even if i turn the ignition on !! BUT if i turn it on to door, close all the doors after a few minutes it goes of and you hear a clicking sound from the dash. so it has to be in there somewhere but where ??? and as soon as i turn the ignition on or open the door the light come on and stays on , what controls it ??

There's a 3 position switch next to the light itself. That does "off", "on", and "courtesy" which should come on when you unlock the car or open a door, and then fade out after 60 seconds, or when you try and start the engine or lock the car.

Does that sound even vaguely similar?

Can't help on where the fader electronics are, but I'd start investigating be cleaning the rear sunroof drains, and the backs of the front wwheel arches behind the liners.

no disrespect !!!! I'm not stupid ken, I am more than capable of operating a light switch, Skoda even put pictures showing each of the three functions for those who are idiots.

and i think I'll give washing the wheel arches a miss to solve an electrical problem. but thanks for your responce

I think you will find that unless you clean your wheel arches out they fill up with leaves and then block the drains from the scuttle area. Water then gets into the electrics. Maybe things work differently in Ireland.

In your case your CCU probably has water ingress issues, so you might need a new unit, possible corrosion on the connector block which may require some new pins, and you would need to solve the water leak too.

Maybe you can work a light switch, but you can't describe a fault clearly! Hence the description of how the courtesy light should work.

The most likely causes of your fault seem to be water ingress in the switch, or the CCU as MBAmes says. If the problem is in the switch, there's no point in even looking at it until you've fixed the water ingress, hence "how to clean the sunroof drains", as being the cheapest course of action (at least in the UK). Then proceed to examining the switch as next cheapest, before the CCU as most expensive. Of course, maybe you like spending money on parts you don't need?

Oh and remember that most of us are amateurs, doing this for free in our spare time, before climbing on your high horse with us!
