Weird knock/clunk noise

Featured Replies

Hi peeps got this werid sort of metal clunk coming from (I think Both sides of the car), but seems to be more apparent on drivers side.

Going over small pot holes, speed bumps and our normal British roads the car is sweet as a nut, However say if pulling off in first soon as the turbo kicks in the noise appears like 2-3 knocks/clunks, will also do it in second but not to such a loud extent, and i can feel it via the steering wheel.

It also tends to do it if braking hard just as it comes to a stop.

Car is a 53 plate with 32 k on it, and recently had the console bushes done, i have checked all over the front suspension and can't find anything that looks like it could be worn to the extent to give this noise.

I'm pondering on the idea of the top mounts, but then this would be apparent all the time.

Cheers.

Heheh doing my nut in to be honest. :)

Probably not relevant but I have a knowing/clunking noise going over our beautiful british roads -.- and the mechanic said I have a busted suspension sping. That same day (after I told him i'll drive with it, who cares if my wheels fall off, not paying £200 for it!) I was driving hapily when I hear the sounds of 'as if something came off and fell off the car and gone somewhere on road' so I pulled over, checked everyhting and all was good and the noise was gone... so whatever was making my noise is gone. If however the wheel falls off while i'm on the road and I total my car I'll let you know ^.^

Good luck solving your issue.

Front ARB bushes, even thou they looked ok ...:wonder:

Even though it looks ok you should get under it with a pry bar!! I bought my car with a knock and the guy said his mechanic changed ball joints, drop links, spring and top mounts, five mins of investigation from me and found it was a knackered strut!! I also chained top mount bearings as the cages were only half full lol...
