NTL DNS servers...

Featured Replies

..seem to be playing up again..

Anyone got a pair of DNS servers that they know are currently working?

Cheers..

I usually use 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100.

Phil

195.92.195.92 - Energis DNS in the north. Usually ok.

Interesting, since those ARE the ntl DNS servers :D

> 194.168.4.100
Server: cache1.ntli.net
Address: 194.168.4.100

Name: cache1.ntli.net
Address: 194.168.4.100

> 194.168.8.100
Server: cache1.ntli.net

They might be where you are, but they were not the ones I was being pointed at here in lancs...

I was on a Sun training course with a guy from NTL, who swore that the 8.100 server sat under his desk for 6 months! They didn't want to take it down to move it so it sat there until the others went live.

Phil

the 4.100 and 8.100 are the main DNS servers. There may have been more introduced to improve DNS performance in some areas, hard to be sure ;)

Those two are the publicly advertised ones however :D

It is possible things have changed, if you are using a router, sometimes just power cycling that will pick up new DNS servers. I had this with Pipex once or twice.

NTL (which I also use) has not been too bad recently, it's actually been solid operation for a few months :D (Oxford area)

Conversely, my link which has been very reliable since it was installed, has started to suffer an increased number of outages. You could _almost_ imagine it is tied to the very cold weather ... :rubchin:

I use Virgin (who use NTL's infrastructure, and are now fully owned by them) and their broadband is pretty solid. Only one outage in the last 18 months.
