What Happended To My Car Today?

Featured Replies

While I was on the ring road and with the engine still cold I tried to get the car warmer by setting of fast oh and racing a car at the lights I got to about 40mph and with the revs being high and in 3rd gear the suddenly the engine made a high revving noise . The noise was light a high pitch revving noise , anyone know was caused this?.

Yeah the clutch felt funny, does this mean I will soon need a new clutch?.

Just checked on the net for slip clutches and it said if you put the car in 4th gear with the handbrake still on and slowly take of the clutch and it stalls the clutch is fine, gone out and done this and the car stalled in 4th at bite point,so is it ok?

Just as an aside, you're asking for trouble sooner or later if you rag it from cold frequently.

Better to keep the revs lowish until everything's up to temp.

Hope you find out what your problem is, and get it sorted.

That's a decent test for clutch slip, yes.

And 40mph with the revs high in 3rd? Yeah, OK then ;)

I'd allow everything to come upto temperature before 'progressing'. Sounds like clutch slip to me, or you've hit the limiter. A classic sign of clutch slip on the move is obviously the revs rising, but without speed increasing accordingly.

There's something built into the sysem to stop you from over revving and damaging the engine. I get it on mine occasionally when I 'forget myself' in 3rd.

I usually do wait till the temp has gone up till I do go fast but not very often I do floor it.

Just got back from a 120 mile ride mainly on the motorway and the car was fine.
