Starting to contemplate next car - a Superb?

Featured Replies

Hi all, my first post so I apologise for my ignorance!

I am a new driver, and currently drive a (quite nice) 08 plate Corsa. For a first car, this is proving to be a very good car - easy to drive, well equipped, reliable - pretty much all that I'd want from a first car. However, because these sort of things annoy me, the high amount of road/engine noise, the lack of performance and general lack of refinement are really starting to annoy me, so while I won't be able to afford to change (or need to) for another two - three years, my mind has already turned to a car more 'my style.'

Being only seventeen (probably twenty-ish when I change), I am not restrained in terms of practicality - boot space and interior space are just a couple of the things I don't need to consider. I really like two very types of cars - sports cars (which I won't be able to afford to insure anyhow), and proper luxury motors. I think for the latter, the Superb could be a contender. The most important things to me are a nice excess of power, good seats/ergonomics and top refinement. Decent economy/tax would be nice, but not important. As and when the time comes, I will have a budget of £6K - £8K depending on how hard I've tried to save my pennies - hence why I'm thinking so early, and would probably not want a car older than four - five years.

Essentially, I'm just asking for your opinions on the Superb. As you can imagine, being several years away yet, I am only thinking vaguely about the change - but I've always been someone who likes to know what's next. So, as a car purely for luxury, how do you rate your car? If you have any other thoughts, they'd be very much appreciated. Other used-bargains I'm thinking of considering are the Alfa 159 and Lexus IS (there are some very good deals to be had), not mentioning my wild card choice of a new Audi A1 on finance if anyone has any experience of that by any chance? I'm not really a Bimmer or Audi man, and while some Mercedes could easily tempt me, they're out of my budget and hence not really worth considering.

Again, thanks for your time, all thoughts are appreciated!

Andrew.

in five years the whole list of available cars will change along with your likes/dislikes and your personal situation

take your time, wait and chose later, no point in setting your sights now

I'd hurry up and get your order in if i were you! Especially if you want a diesel engine.

If you place an order now, Skoda will probably be JUST about ready to deliver it in time for your 20th birthday.

I disagree!! Set your sights now.

I have a 170 DSG Estate which will be ready for you to buy in 3 years time.It will be in excellent condition with about 50k..........................#

Seriously though, by all means do your research but you will not really know until the time comes to buy.

This time last year I was on my second A4 Avant and had just decided to buy a towing caravan. The Audi was OK for the job but a little small inside. I was thinking second hand Discovery, A6 or Q7 s as a replacement.

Despite using Octavias and Mk1 Superbs in work I have to say Skodas hadn't crossed my mind until I read an article on the estate. Went for a look (not seriously thinking to buy, just curious) and bought the demonstrator! And its .....well......SUPERB.

Point is, keep your options open.
