Putting my Fabia to bed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Once the weather gets a little warmer, I'll be swapping from my Fabia to my motorcycle for my daily commute. I don't expect that I'll be using it much, if at all for long periods. With that in mind, would any one offer me some advice on how I should put it 'to bed', so to speak? Obviously keeping the battery charged is a concern but is there anything else I can do to keep it in tip top shape?

Thanks,

Charles

move it around a bit so its not sat on the same part of the tyre for a long time.

take the +'ve terminal off the battery to preserve it

I doubt you'll really be leaving it for a couple of months? (surely one day the weather will simply be too bad to use the bike?) so I wouldn't be too concerned.

I'll ride in any weather as long as it's not icy!

Thanks for the advice!

Even in severe gales? That would put me off.

Fortunately, we don't get very extreme weather in Cambridge! But, yes, riding in strong winds can be a bit hairy...

Not even for shopping or going out, say, once a week?

If not done recently get it serviced before you put it away, that way all fluids should be fresh and good to go when the weather turns.

I'd take it out at least once a month to blow off the cobwebs, a nice run up the A10 to Ely and back should do it.

disconnect battery and stick it on axle stands. job done

Speak for yourself, the M11 can get pretty windy! as can the A11 :(

Would there be any implications with the alarm by disconnecting the battery?

I only ask as I will be storing mine in a relatives garage for over 6 months later this year....

In what way? I doubt it'll work for all the 6 months, but I found there's a backup battery as I've set my alarm off before with the battery disconnected.

I meant if the battery was disconnected for that amount of time, would the alarm go off if the backup battery drained? I did want to leave the car unlocked to ensure that the alarm didn't end up going off....

No idea in that case - sorry!

Could always lock the car, but disable the alarm, although still not sure what that'll do with a flat battery.
