Maybe the Octy has to go....

we had this, I originally bought the ocy as our "family car" but the missus found the back too cramped so I bought her a hyundai Trajet and kept the ocy as a toy. Must say that although the Trajet is crude and slow and not so good on fuel, it was cheap, is huge, a good cruiser and has been very reliable.

My missus doesn't drive so keeping two cars was always a long shot. I'm sad to report though that, even though I thought I had it overpriced as a feeble attempt to keep it, the Octy has gone. It went quite quickly actually which makes me feel like I may have under estimated its value. Still, 100% profit can't be bad as the car cost me nothing.

I am holding a small service for it's loss on Friday but I feel I will be the only one in attendance.... :'( Well, I'm going to the pub to spend some of the cash.

Does anyone know of any good Renault forums? I joined a Scenic specific one and my first post was removed. Maybe it's because I slagged it off a bit. (well, ok then, a lot!)

 How to make a first impression! I guess they'll be a bit sensitive about their/your cars as they don't have the best reputation, no matter how well deserved it is or isn't.

The only Renault forums I have dipped into in the past were the Renault Megane ones as I was looking at a 225 once. Not sure how supportive they'll be comapred to this one either as I've been on a few and this is by far the best. You may find you get good help on here anyway as there are lots of people with a good deal of knowledge about all types of cars.

Another way you might gain help is by issuing an apology to the Renault community, stating that you retract any offensive or inflamatory propoganda relating to electrics, plastics or shoddy workmanship. Good luck.

No problem with the plastics, they are very nice in fact and alot better than the Skoda I had, all soft touch and they even fit well together. I like the half leather trim as well and in the cabin there are no rattles, so as far as build quality inside, all is good at the moment. There is no excuse for the electrics though, I am quite sure every car I have owned has had electrical bits and as far as I can remember they all worked most of the time. On the bright side, some of the dash lights have started working again but now the 'key-less' locks on the doors don't work. Maybe it's a time share on battery power and each item gets it's fair share..... I can't complain too much as I like to have a 'tinker' with my cars but with the push button start being electrical I don't want that to fail.... Even the handbrake is electric, you would have thought that a company that was so bad with auto electrics they would have minimised on that front and spent the money elsewhere. I do like the automatic handbrake though, makes for very lazy driving. I guess they know they are useless at electrics as there is an emergency handbrake release in the very handy location of the boot! I can see it now, the thing won't come off at the lights and I have to get out, empty the boot and pull the lever while everyone behind in their Skodas are laughing.

Traffic chaos yesterday on Woodbridge road, Ipswich due to a....BROKEN DOWN SCENIC! I also know of someone who is on their 3rd, yes 3rd engine (diesel).

It wasn't me.... I'm glad I got the diesel now

You might be lucky and have got a good one. My little sister (35yrs old :D ) lives in France and has a Renault Grand Scenic. Even though she dislikes the car from an aethestic and emotional point of view, she can't fault the car for any reason. It is a workhorse and seems to do most things quite well - apart from make her smile. Her old Alfa used to do that. Having me as a big brother instilled in her a love of cars from an early age.

Fixed my first electrical fault on the Scenic, it now starts with the clutch pressed and not just the brake, two more faults to go. At least the Scenic Forum now lets me post again but I have found they are not as helpful as this site. All I have asked is where the fuses are for the fog lights and heating control illumination but still awaiting an answer. I have found the fuses in the glove box but they all look ok. Took them all out and replaced them anyway which resulted in me needing to re-enter the radio code. Simple task if the correct code is in the book but mine wasn't, thought I was putting it in wrong so tried a few times. I ended up having to wait 32 minutes before it would let me enter a code I got off the internet which worked first time! Found a fuse box under the bonnet but none of them are labeled and don't want to mess up any other electrical device by changing them. Also found out there is a fuse box under the passenger seat but not sure how to get to it yet without breaking anything. I think I may get a Haynes Manual but I will ignor the 'remove battery negative lead' bit as I don't want to wait 32 minutes to enter my radio code again. (unless that resets after a correct entry)???

I'm still thinking about a T4 van with a set of seats in the back, I may have found a source of ex AA vans which are a crew cab kind of arrangement complete with 3 point seat belts for the rear seats. Still, it's probably a bit large for what I really need. I may just take the advice of skinnyman and hire a car for my longer journeys.

If you are thinking of a T4 Van. I don't know where your based but i've bought a couple of vans from these guys without any issues:

http://www.mvsvansales.co.uk/

They do allsorts, not just ex RAC/AA vans, including transporters. The best priced vans i've managed to find.

Also you can consider using a company for fitting the extra seat's you need. They even fit windows

Theres also plenty on ebay: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=transporter+seats&_sacat=0&_odkw=transport+seats&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

I like the look of these but a bit expensive: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Transporter-T5-Alcantara-Rear-Captain-Seat-Set-Rails-/290535715325?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CommercialVehicleParts_SM&hash=item43a54731fd

Its happened...... The Scenic won't start. It's a problem with the steering lock, had it booked in for an oil change in the morning but I'm sure it won't be the first scenic that has turned up on a recovery truck! Had it just over a month and it's not been too bad until now. Just little niggly problems but then it throws in the major one to keep my wallet open!
