*Here we go again* Columbus Sat Nav fitted and working well, however battey drain :(

Featured Replies

Hello Experts,

I know there's loads of posts on here about Can-Bus'es and possible problems after fitting a Columbus Sat Nav.

I've just fitted a Columbus to my 56 plate Octavia vrs and although it works great my battery drains overnight. :'(

From what I've read on here my Can-Bus rev is too old and needs to be replaced, (I have seen this one).

I'm pretty handy with a screwdriver and am sure I can get my old unit out & the new in, but after that everything seems to become a mystery???? Again from what I've researched it would then need to be VAG COM programmed. Does anybody know where I can get this done? Or if it's something I could do myself? I have no idea what I need to do this or even how to do it, I'd happily drive to, and pay one of you experts to help me get this done if you're willing to help me out.... I guess I need a little knowledge 'crash course'

Many thanks indeed

Pete :)

Hi Mike,

this does help. Thank you very much!!

I'm still a little confused what entirely I need to program the new Can-Bus, is it this =

http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VCKU.html

I'll go ahead & purchase the Can-Bus module regardless, however for the moment I'll refit my Stream until I can investigate further what I need to. I'm, heading up to Chester this weekend and am too nervous  to leave the Columbus in just in case I can't get the car started after visiting a motorway service stop for whatever reason.

Many thanks again!

And thanks for the tip on the fuse & it's location. ;)

Hi Mike,

you're a star!!!

Would my Skoda dealer program up a new CAN-BUS gateway? All I want to do is to stop my battery drain, I'd probably have no more use for the microCAN after this. £208 to stop my battery drain seems a little high. Do you kind folk with the CAN tools perform this as a chargeable service for one off's like me? :)

Many thanks "Again"

Not had opportunity to try myself, but there's a list of VAG-COM owners on the site here: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/74720-list-of-vag-com-diagnostic-system-vcds-owners/

If you can find someone close to you they may be willing to help. :)

Hi Mike,

that really is kind of you many thanks! Just noticed you're in the Preston area, yes that's not too far from Chester. As of yet I've not bought the module, but I will order it today.

Rather than messing you about at the end of the week with the 'module's arrived / module's not arrived' I'll play safe and assume that I won't have it by the weekend, (ordered it today with an estimated delivery of 5-7days).

However I do visit Chester very regularly as my family & friends are there. Would your kind offer still stand if I were to get back in touch with a mutual date that suits you when I have the new CAN gateway? Of course I'll shout you some cash to cover your generosity & time.

Many thanks "again"

Pete

Pete, have you got the can gateway module yet? If so, I'm off on Saturday, and only an hour away from Chester if that's any use. I'd gladly code it up for you.

Mike

Don't let Mike near your car!!

Before you know it your brake lights flash under emergency braking, your doors lock as soon as you drive off, your car 'chirps' when locking it, your windows auto-close by holding the button on your remote, your seat belt warning has disappeared, your fog lights and reversing lights have doubled in number, the list goes on .......

Sounds great!!!

Apologies if this has been covered but I haven't had a chance to read the entire thread plus attachments, but if not this is the gateway you need. I had the same one myself but sold it on due to other issues.

Excellent thanks v much. Offered the seller £75 & he accepted, probably could have gone lower but £85 delivered seems fair to me. Thanks

All done!! Went to see MikeHolroyd on Sat 26th Feb!! What a guy...... ;)

Mike done a brilliant job!! Homed in on my Can-Bus first time, took all of the readings from my old unit, and then out with the old, in with the new!! Coded up my Columbus a treat, activated my 'self-retrofitted' cruise, and done a whole host of other changes that now make the car mine; my girlfriend too is pleased that she's no longer standing in the rain as I try to double-click the remote door unlock with varying success, one press unlocks all now.

Mike even charged up my flattened battery (from all of our playing), and also makes a damn fine cup of tea!!!! Is there anything Mike can't do?? If there is then I don't think it's worth doing.

Big kudos to Mike. Many thanks B)

Just waiting on an email as to when he will be near me, well within 100 miles :giggle: so I can get mine done

MON Tues or WED are best days  can travel further :giggle:

I'm having the battery drain issues with the Columbus too. I'm trying to open the VAG-COM owners link, but it isn't available, is there a new one?
