Can of worms...

Hope i'm not struck down for bringing up this forbidden argument :x

On my very long private road..... Had a pull with a Civic Type R (Ep3) and very much to my amazement, it wasn't getting anywhere. The Honda driver couldn't believe it, we had a chat after and he didn't understand why his 200bhp Civic couldn't escape. I was expecting the 7800rpm redline to eat up the ground.

My question: I know this is an on-going debate but, is it common for a stage one mapped Fabia to be able to go with a CTR?

P.S I am in hiding to avoid being headhunted for this topic :whew:

you will keep up 30-80 after that no...down to the torque...

i followed a astra vxr yesterday...was on his tail till i passed him ..the look on the 3 lads faces was priceless..

Looking at your Sig you have double the torque of a civic so that will definitely help...

Disclaimer. I am taking no sides in this argument

You have a lot more torque, which will work in your favour as has already been said. The number of gearchanges required before you have to start slowing down again will make a difference, too. If you both went from 1st to 6th on your run, but neither of you reached top speed, I can imagine it being close.

FWIW, 6.6s 0-60 is quoted for the CTR, and I have achieved 7.1s myself in my Fabia (and I'm no Stig!)

PS: Threads like these used to be banned, you know!

id say it would keep up because it has the torque where as the type r is more power and has no low down torque

bhp - sells cars

torque - wins races

the more bhp will only play a part in top end speed usually, ie, he can do 140mph for example where you could only do 130mph. the torque is what causes the car to accelerate which is why you scared the balls out of him lol :giggle:

the extra power will come into play as warrick said, when you hit 80 or 100 lets say the civic will then begin to pull a gap.

I have found the VRS to be pretty rapid on the motorway. It has pulled away from most things until the people behind begin doing ridiculous speeds bordering on dangerous...at that point i let them through..

1st and 2nd gears are a joke IMHO...3rd gear is my fave :giggle:

i had a type r before the vrs, and it wouldnt surprise me that a remapped vrs would be close to a std civic, now if the civic like my old 1 was heavily tuned then it would be a different story emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

My Newly mapped Fabia is quicker than my old ST170 in a straight line, but I still miss the "on rails" handling the Focus had

A standard one should be almost as quick as a ST170....In a striaght line of course

It wasn't a fully standard ST170, but it only had a bit extra, maybe 185BHP and 205nm

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo not again!!

the fabia is frugal upto and around 80mph with a remap, then all the hot hatches focus st's, type r's will rip you a new blow hole....!

on the other hand if you bolt on a hybrid turbo and chase 220bhp the outcome will be different, they will probably still blow you 1XXmph+ though

lol that's nothing - yesterday I whizzed past a new Golf GT TDI (170) but was flashed by a Mercedes Vito to move out of the way... red letters on back suggest it had 204bhp on tap!

lol added to that the fact it would no doubt have been a 'white van' ?? ...... theyre always faster of cause emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Nope, it was black with red stripes in places, kinda like the A-Team :)

Yeah up to about 80/100mph and the Type-R just pulls passed. Mate of mine had a Type-R and was hell of a surprised when he couldn't get passed my mapped vRS... Corsa VXR's too... neck and neck then the vRS pulls in front :giggle: !!

oh, lol emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

crazy foooooooooool !!!!

My 5th gear keeps up with my friend's std rx8 quite happily. He wasn't too happy about that (plus spending £3k on fuel in 7 months). So he got rid of it and got an IQ lol.

But back on topic(ish), i'd love to have a EP3 if only the insurance and fuel wasn't :moon: .

you'd never be able to leave it std either..... i tried and failed....miserably!! spent a fortune on my old 1, great fun though, emoticon-0148-yes.gif

heres a thought!

if anyone wants a type r but doesnt like the image they give off try a Toyota Corolla T Sport which is unknown, sounds miles better than VTEC and is quicker!

or if you want something really really quick get the Tsport Compressor, 215bhp Superchared with VVTL-I B)

It reminds me of these

My vRS ate Type R's when it was 199bhp, I know several friends who have them and there's no contest in it really. It was from 20mph to about 120mph. Not so sure about just a map though.

im going the other way hopefully and selling for a ep3 in april time (Y)

dont get me wrong my mate couldnt pull away from me when i had mine remapped but at the end of the day the v-tec sounds evil especially with an induction kit on.

K PRO the vtec and its bye bye DISEASEal wannabe hot hatch
