My present four-year-old Octavia estate has 'doors' covering the cubby-holes at each side of the load area. I know these are no longer supplied with the 'standard' Octavia estates, but does the L&K still have the 'doors'?

It does on my 5 year old L&K, don't know on the new ones though.

If you mean the storage compartments where the mutli disc cd changer used to be located on the left hand side, then my new Elegance estate has them.
