Why do you call them vRS?

Featured Replies

Skoda where I live always refer to the vRS as the RS. I know several other countries do as well. What is the reason UK residents call it the vRS?

I noticed on net today that even the UK brochure refers to it as the RS.

So - what's up with the "v"?

there are a fe threads about it on here but basically I think it boils down to another motor company getting copyright on "RS"

A while back on this forum, it was explained that the V is in fact a Diacritical which appears above the S in Skoda. According to Wiki, this particular Diacritic is a caron.

As far as I know Skoda did a bit of rallying many years ago and used the RS logo on their rally car. They only competed in one or two seasons and never copyrighted the RS logo.. Along came Ford with their rally car and used the RS logo and Copyrighted it.

Many moons passed and skoda decided to hit the Rally scene again, To their surprise they were informed they could not use the Logo as Ford had the rights to it.

Someone in the Skoda boardroom got mad and scratched his head and said **** you Fork.... !!emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

This gave him an idea to use the V in front of the RS for Victory ( really it was saying **** you ) emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

This gave the name Victory Rally Sport vRS for short emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Well thank you all of you!

Seems a bit narrowminded by Ford to only secure RS rights in the UK. Also, I am still a bit puzzled why the brochure in UK simply says RS as in all other countries.

Anyway, it gets me closer to what happened. Then again Audi... They too have their RS, and that comes without the v... Go figure.

It doesn't........ see here for the UK brochure where it lists it as vRS

Are you sure it doesnt mean "Very Rapid Skoda"? ;)

Its probably down to Ford UK, being R-soles & not wanting the RS brand associated with such a down market product.

I just think well that makes UK Skoda RS cars unique, and a lot better value for money than the over priced & uncomfortable versions that Ford produce ( Just MY opinion)

VRS=Very RS :)

It seems only in UK its vRS, in Europe its RS.

It does usually come with another number though, ie. the model name is "RS4", "RS6" etc. rather than just RS.
