So these extras...

Featured Replies

I am this close to ringing up Mr Dealer and saying - new Fabia VRS please!

So these extras... here are my thoughts, what are yours?

Rear parking sensors - hmm parallel parked for close to 10 years on a busy street with narrow gaps. But then not much rear view and sensitive reverse on the auto box. At £233, hmmm maybe.

Electric sunroof - cabin needs some light, bit dingy but with sunset rear glass maybe thats the point. Also potential for leakage and more electrics to have potential issue. Considerable extra build time? Nah

Heated front seats - "Only" £137 but I don't really feel the cold. Nah

Integrated headlight washers - But not Xenons? I'll just give 'em a wipe if dirty, just more electrics and use up washer fluid. Nah

Metallic Paint - Race Blue. Yes please!

Satnav - Integrated, touchscreen would look cool. Very useful. But then I do have a good detachable Garmin. Maybe

Smoker's pack. No! Does car still have blanked off lighter socket though if this not specced? To power above Garmin!

Storage Boxes. For £50 yes, useful.

Third rear headrest. No, hate these and never have 5 in car!

White roof. Yes!

Climate control. More buttons to play with, but really any benefit over standard aircon?? Maybe Thoughts please.

Telephone ready wheel and bluetooth prep - No not a phone addict at all.

Curve projector lights - No, not convinced, especially at £230. Just another potential problem.

Floor mats - No, will keep my MK1 mats. Do they fit?! Or get nicer unofficial VRS ones.

Front armrest - Don't do many lazy motorway miles. No

Gigaro - Black/white/dark chrome. Black and dark chrome unflattering in my opinion. Standard silver make wheels appear larger and better proportion. No

Glasses storage - I need my glasses to drive! No!

Rear electric windows - Gotta keep something old school! No, not fussy, rarely anyone in back.

Think I'd rather pay out some extra on the exterior look I want than speccing up with toys, base price is a bit of a push financially as it is. But fantastic savings at the moment B)

I was toying with all white and some extra goodies, or more basic spec but blue/white. All white looks fabulously sharp and clean but says a bit "couldn't afford an Audi" and looks tatty once dirty. Blue + white roof and silver wheels as in the autotrader gallery looks awesome I think.

HTH a little?

So these extras... here are my thoughts, what are yours?

Rear parking sensors - hmm parallel parked for close to 10 years on a busy street with narrow gaps. But then not much rear view and sensitive reverse on the auto box. At £233, hmmm maybe. 100% Yes, a bumper repaint would cost that much.

Electric sunroof - cabin needs some light, bit dingy but with sunset rear glass maybe thats the point. Also potential for leakage and more electrics to have potential issue. Considerable extra build time? Nah Agree

Heated front seats - "Only" £137 but I don't really feel the cold. Nah I never liked heated seats - before I got my new Superb, I now love them, so absolutely yes (they are great for warming you up right through to your core due to the backrest being heated as well).

Integrated headlight washers - But not Xenons? I'll just give 'em a wipe if dirty, just more electrics and use up washer fluid. Nah Agree, seems a bit pointless.

Metallic Paint - Race Blue. Yes please! Bit of a common colour - BUT a lovely colour though.

Satnav - Integrated, touchscreen would look cool. Very useful. But then I do have a good detachable Garmin. Maybe The Columbus sat nav is just 'ok' what is good though is the integrated HVAC display.

Smoker's pack. No! Does car still have blanked off lighter socket though if this not specced? To power above Garmin! Yes - on the Superb at least.

Storage Boxes. For £50 yes, useful.

Third rear headrest. No, hate these and never have 5 in car!

White roof. Yes!

Climate control. More buttons to play with, but really any benefit over standard aircon?? Maybe Thoughts please.

Telephone ready wheel and bluetooth prep - No not a phone addict at all. If you ever use the phone whilst driving then IMO it is a must and very good.

Curve projector lights - No, not convinced, especially at £230. Just another potential problem. Again if this is simular to the Superb's AFS(?) then it is very good.

Floor mats - No, will keep my MK1 mats. Do they fit?! Or get nicer unofficial VRS ones. Fully agree the carpet and mats quality on new Skoda's is shocking

Front armrest - Don't do many lazy motorway miles. No Love mine

Gigaro - Black/white/dark chrome. Black and dark chrome unflattering in my opinion. Standard silver make wheels appear larger and better proportion. No Agree, not a lover of black wheels on anything TBH

Glasses storage - I need my glasses to drive! No!

Rear electric windows - Gotta keep something old school! No, not fussy, rarely anyone in back.

Yes as they appear to be so common now I think it may affect resale value and its done properly and fully intigrated not a retrofit after "the other half backed into a low wall etc" and the cost that would bring

Electric sunroof - cabin needs some light, bit dingy but with sunset rear glass maybe thats the point. Also potential for leakage and more electrics to have potential issue. Considerable extra build time? Nah

Aircon and a sunroof? Also a No

Heated front seats - "Only" £137 but I don't really feel the cold. Nah

Nah i just realy don't like being hot in a seat don't like leather seats for same reason.

Integrated headlight washers - But not Xenons? I'll just give 'em a wipe if dirty, just more electrics and use up washer fluid. Nah

If its realy that bad I'm sure I'd rather keep the washers on the windscreen working longer than wash the lights

Metallic Paint - Race Blue. Yes please!

Same colour mine will be

Satnav - Integrated, touchscreen would look cool. Very useful. But then I do have a good detachable Garmin. Maybe

Only option I'm having second thoughts of I wish I'd spec that as it also gets rid of the standard roof arial. Depends if you look or listen to your satnav as I feel intigrated ones are too far away from looking out the windscreen for my piece of mind

Smoker's pack. No! Does car still have blanked off lighter socket though if this not specced? To power above Garmin!

If you don't smoke I wouldn't as it'll just turn into some where for people to leave rubbish in your car

Storage Boxes. For £50 yes, useful.

After having the drawers in a fox I skipped them as I'd rather not have yet another space to fill with stuff also I'm sure they can be retro fitted if realy required

Third rear headrest. No, hate these and never have 5 in car!

It'll just reduce rear visability and how often do you travel with 3 adults in the back of relativly small car?

White roof. Yes!

I skiped the coloured roof but personal prefrence

Climate control. More buttons to play with, but really any benefit over standard aircon?? Maybe Thoughts please.

buttons or a dial I couldn't see the big advantage to be honest

Telephone ready wheel and bluetooth prep - No not a phone addict at all.

No Big believer that if I'm driving it can blinking well wait

Curve projector lights - No, not convinced, especially at £230. Just another potential problem.

Went with these to test them out as I tend to drive more country lanes and I'd like to try having my lights lighting the road not the field

Floor mats - No, will keep my MK1 mats. Do they fit?! Or get nicer unofficial VRS ones.

Same plus dealer keeps trying to sell me them so I'm sure he'll be able to get me a set should I change my mind but the afterkarket ones with the VRS logo look better than no logo

Front armrest - Don't do many lazy motorway miles. No

With DSG why don't you have both hands on the wheel?

Gigaro - Black/white/dark chrome. Black and dark chrome unflattering in my opinion. Standard silver make wheels appear larger and better proportion. No

Went with the black to make them less visable but thats personal taste

Glasses storage - I need my glasses to drive! No!

Might be a good place to keep them if they are driving only ones but the holder is tiny no sun glasses are going to fit

Rear electric windows - Gotta keep something old school! No, not fussy, rarely anyone in back.

When am I going to be sitting in the back of my car?

Think I'd rather pay out some extra on the exterior look I want than speccing up with toys, base price is a bit of a push financially as it is. But fantastic savings at the moment B)

those are expensive boxes for £50!

Go for the satnav the one you get looks terrible!

Its a shame you cant upgrade the interior door handles as an option they feel really cheap

We dont have the smokers pack (Wish we did...the ash tray is useful for coin storage!) an we have a cig lighter without the ligheter part lol

Gigaro - Black/white/dark chrome. Black and dark chrome unflattering in my opinion. Standard silver make wheels appear larger and better proportion. No

Disagree with this slightly - the dark chrome wheels defintely appear larger than the other 3 including the silver. Agree with you about the black tho --they looked really small on the demonstrator I took out.

Not sure about that, had mine with white vRS wheels parked up alongside one with the dark chrome wheels and I thought the white ones looked bigger. They look bigger than the black centred wheels on the Superb too even though they arent.

Best extra that I chose is the Sunroof, makes the car a pleasure to drive with passing air going through the cab without the wind roar of a partially open side window.

Parking sensors are for bad women drivers, or persons with stiff necks who can't turn their head :dull:

Storage boxes are not that big and very-very cheap plastic.

More useful storage can be found in the armrest, don't need an armrest to rest my arm.

White car with white roof, looks very nice but looks better with a few added tweaks ( photos coming soon on a website near you ;) )

I am this close to ringing up Mr Dealer and saying - new Fabia VRS please!

Rear parking sensors - hmm parallel parked for close to 10 years on a busy street with narrow gaps. But then not much rear view and sensitive reverse on the auto box. At £233, hmmm maybe. We have these...waste of time...it's such an easy car to park.

Nah Much more useful than parking sensors, they work very well..and if you have these you can turn the heater off & let the engine warm up faster.

Integrated headlight washers - But not Xenons? I'll just give 'em a wipe if dirty, just more electrics and use up washer fluid. Nah Agree

Metallic Paint - Race Blue. Yes please! Nice

Satnav - Integrated, touchscreen would look cool. Very useful. But then I do have a good detachable Garmin. Maybe I'm pro tomtom or garmin...but...the Skoda unit looks miles better than the standard stereo.

Smoker's pack. No! Does car still have blanked off lighter socket though if this not specced? To power above Garmin! You do get a power socket without smokers pack

Storage Boxes. For £50 yes, useful. We have these...wouldn't have ordered them...it was an ex display car...a bit small to be useful...though somewhere to hide your satnav if you don't go with the factory fit option.

Third rear headrest. No, hate these and never have 5 in car! we have....waste of space

White roof. Yes! nice

Climate control. More buttons to play with, but really any benefit over standard aircon?? Maybe Thoughts please. we have..gives more control than a button.

Telephone ready wheel and bluetooth prep - No not a phone addict at all. I would never have ordered this...but it's so good I now miss it in our Octavia.

Curve projector lights - No, not convinced, especially at £230. Just another potential problem. We have...good lighting control if you drive dark twisty roads...but not as good as the Xenon AFS system we have on the Octy

Floor mats - No, will keep my MK1 mats. Do they fit?! Or get nicer unofficial VRS ones. Buy on-line special VRS monogramed & colour coded ones for £55

Front armrest - Don't do many lazy motorway miles. No We have...it's always up as it gets in the way...I've used it once on a m'way run...so if you do a lot of m'way miles perhaps.

Gigaro - Black/white/dark chrome. Black and dark chrome unflattering in my opinion. Standard silver make wheels appear larger and better proportion. No Is it cos I is black? :D

Glasses storage - I need my glasses to drive! No! I miss not having as we have on Octy & I keep my sunglasses in there.

Rear electric windows - Gotta keep something old school! No, not fussy, rarely anyone in back. We have..great, cos we have kids

HEAD RESTS stop you snaping your neck when someone crashes into rear

Big plus on what you do order it's vat free ! Maybe with the saving throw in one that you might not normally have gone for

Climate: If you're a set and forget person then excellent. I came from a manual aircon set up and thought climate would be excellent but I have ended up altering the settings to what I fancy as often as if it was manual anyway. I would say save your money.

Thanks for input everybody, very useful as always

However, new Fab VRS plan has been aborted. Pushes the finances too far, and running costs are off putting. Awesome car though and a steal at current price.

Will look at a 2-3 year old top spec Octavia VRS 170CR in a couple of years instead once finance is clear on current car. Had to step back and realise I was getting carried away, I can be very impulsive sometimes :giggle:

sorry finances did not allow.

Keep well

Cheers bullyboy

Someday I WILL have a brand spanking new car I hope, but waiting a while longer screams more sense at the moment.

Also prefer the look and interior of the Octavia VRS by a long way, I have to force myself just that little bit to really like the look of the new Fabia, while the Octavia needs no extra convincing. That plus 2.0CR mileage figures are closer to my current than the new Furby, and I'm more of a diesel torquey convert now rather than screaming little petrol. Good things come to those who wait ;)

Yep , I must admit the running costs of the vRS are a bit of a worry - but after a lot of thought I decided to ignore them emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

I would've done too if it hadn't been for doubts about the other financing. Insurance was a fair chunk more and I've heard it drinks fuel much more than the claimed 45mpg on short runs which is what I mostly do. Enjoy yours though!

Im the same. I had driven a load of cars and was in the process of choosing one all around the 3 year mark and with pretty powerful engines.

Leon cupra

Mazda 6MPS

Mazda 3MPS

Vauxhall vectra VXR

Volvo S60R

amonsgt others. had a spin in the fabia and just put a deposit down there and then pretty much. Mian reason for me was cheap consumables and road tax. i go through tyres/brakes like its going out of fashion with trackdays etc so the fabia will save me allot in the long run, that and the fact its less than a 3rd of the price of the others for road tax.

The way i see it, the others would rinse the fabia on a straight, but the fabia will corner much better. thats more important to me. nothing a remap wont solve anyway

Janner SY, out of interest why the jump down from the Octavia? And how did the 1.4TSI compare to the 2.0? Is the Octavia noticeably quicker? What about ride and handling?

My wife is a bit of tight wad. We're looking at Fabias at the moment and the toss up is between the vRS (my choice of course) and a 1.2 TSi 105hp Elegance Manual/DSG (Wifes).

If (and it is a bit of an if at the moment) we go the vRS route im under strict orders to keep options to the minimum and they must be essentials and not just nice to haves. We've therefore decided on the following: -

White paint - saves on Metallic whilst looking really rather cool

Parking sensors - will be our first estate car and whilst not huge think it will be of benefit when reversing into short spaces. They also integrate nicely into the HU with the optical parking system and so dont just bleep.

Electric rear windows - in the 21st century dont see why anyone in a modern car should have to wind a window! Its a cheap option too and with a very young child on board the lockout button will prove invaluable.

I considered other options originally like cruise, climate, sat nav, bluetooth, headlamp washers but lets face it they are all just nice to haves.

The cars an auto so is cruise really needed when you dont even have to think about changing gears?

Without climate you still have air con. OK maybe it makes the dash a little nicer to look at but its alot of money to pay for the privilege. I also have never liked the auto fan control on most climate units either, is a pain.

Sat Nav, again it makes the dash look nice and integrates well into other features of the car but its very expensive and a decent tom tom will probably do a better job anyway.

Bluetooth...I dont agree with people making phone calls in cars full stop

Headlamp washers......perhaps I should really be washing my car a bit more often.

Whilst the VAT deal is superb I reckon alot of people are falling into the trap of using the saving to heavily option up their cars. Each to their own but i'd still rather save what I can by paying just over £14k for it than £16-17k with toys i dont really need.

Sorry I have fibbed ever so slightly. I'm allowed one nice to have option. I'm not overly enamoured with the standard wheels so we' be going Dark Chrome Gigaro's; is only £90 or so though!

Cruise for me was more about keeping a clean licence it's a quick car and getting lots of speeding points is in noones intrest but the tax man's.

Nice choice on the wheels white VRS and dark rims looks better than the silver IMHO

Fair shout, i have cruise on my Golf and do use it very very occasionally. I however find than no one drives consistently enough for it to work effectively (keep having to adjust it, turn it off then resume).....does come in handy when in an average speed limit though I get satisfaction out of setting the correct speed and coasting past people going just that bit slower! I just figured that with the auto box its probably not such a necessity. It's really easy to have it retrofitted at a later date too (new indicator stalk and re-code).

Cheers RE the wheels, I really like them.

It's really easy to have it retrofitted at a later date too (new indicator stalk and re-code).

Not on this car I'm afraid.

Cruise control requires a complete dashboard out job and isn't offered by Skoda any more as a retro-fit citing it as a factory only option.

You may possibly be able to find an independent who can do it but it won't be standard and won't be cheap either.

I ordered cruise on my car if only to serve as a licence retaining facility, especially when going through both GATSO and average speed cameras. Having an auto box also lures you into a false sense of security and you can end up going much quicker than you think you are. At least in a manual you know roughly what speed you're doing judging by the gear you've selected, much harder to gauge in an auto!
