1.2TSi vs 1.6 TDi CR

Well folks its test drive day tomorrow, cant believe how quickly the week has gone.

Bit annoyed as dealer called today to make sure we were still coming in and advised that the vRS is there but during the week they've sold and delivered their 1.2 105hp DSG demonstrator, so am not going to get to see how the DSG mates with the little engine. A shame I feel but I have pretty much decided that a manual would probably be a better bet anyway (again being slightly quicker and cheaper than the auto).

The real shame is that whilst they have another 1.2TSi manual, its only the 85hp version so it's really not going be the fairest of comparisons. Never mind will see how it goes and will update when I can.

Well all decision has been made.....we're getting a vRS estate! Thanks for the advice and for answering my questions.

hi guys whots the1.2 tsi 86 engine like sumone said that they are a bit thirsty when tanking them on the motorway ive got 1.2 12v three pot very happy with it

just thourt i have a change but aim looking at the roomster need more room leg room but still whont to stick with skoda

Usually slightly better than the 105. Depends what you mean by "tanking it", Cruising at 70mph would give you up to 50mpg, go much higher and economy drops off a cliff. 85mph will mean no more than 35mpg and on down to 25mpg if you go higher.

Hi Bullyboy, getting a Candy White estate with Dark Chromes, Parking Sensors and Elec Rear Windows. Was under strict orders on the toys; nothing silly :-) Really looking forward to getting it but a 17 week approx wait haha

I say have a read of this link. i've posted the linkin a few threads now

so far 53 voters.

35 have DSG love it and wouldnt change.

6 have tried DSG and loved it.

4 wished they had DSG instead.

0 people with DSG hated it

the negatives

1 guy wishes he had manual instead of DSG.

7 have driven a car with DSG (but not owned one) however they hated it

Bearing in mind this is all on the Mk5 GTI so a sporty car with sporty credentials and a solid backing of enthusiastic owners who have been buying golfs GTIs for years, As well as this alot of the guys posted spend alot of money at track days and 1/4 mile racing. In all fairness theres not much negativity at all, and what little negativity there is is mainly same same people posting in subsequent posts.

I think once you have got used to the change from manual to DSG it'll be great, but its that transition period where you keep trying to depress the clutch, and dont pre empt the gear change if you suddenly feel the urge to boot it.

i regret not ordering the estate

Nice. Sorry you have got the long wait. Can live through others pictures and experiences on this site whilst waiting and like what quite a few of us are doing :giggle:

4 stone Dog and baby on the way made the estate a must-have! To be fair we were a whisker away from getting the 1.2 TSi Elegance so I'm counting myself very lucky that I got my way....not that its remotely a bad car of course but 105 vs 180hp....no contest!

Thanks Ross, i'm definitely swung towards the manual. Regarding the spec of the Elegance, as standard it is missing a few things I would want to have (ESP, MFSW, dark glass and probably Media IN). Given the substantial price difference between one of these and the vRS, if the wife doesnt want the vRS i'm tempted to put Sat Nav and Bluetooth on it just for the sake of it. I know it will do nothing for its resale value but i've got to be happy with the car for 3 years and i'd still be saving a good £1500 over a fairly standard vRS.

ESP can be spec`d but if you are going to do that I`d say go for the ESP+ option (adds a few more safety features that would be much more expensive otherwise), dark glass doesn`t really look that much different to be honest, I wouldnt have it myself.

As for MFSW, can`t say about that as my Furby doesnt have it but our Superb does and its buttons are hardly ever used!
