Columbus fault

Featured Replies

Hi all, hope you can help.

I have the MDI interface fitted and all has been working well so far. Today I started the car, pressed the media button and it said 'system starting'....said that for about 40 minutes for the drive home! Have tried turning on and off and also switched off the ignition and restarted, all to no effect. Any ideas out there? Tried searching the forums, but found nothing.

Thanks for your help,

Matt.

I had the same problem a few months ago. the next day it worked fine again. it is not the first time that I have seen this and whilst the Columbus unit is generally a great bit of kit is must surely be the most UNRELIABLE part on any Skoda. My previous car (Octy L&K) which now belongs to my wife is on its third unit and (touch wood) number 3 is working faultlessly at the moment. The unit in the Superb has a very occasional "bad day" but it behaves again eventually. I can guarantee that if you took the unit to your dealer it would magically start to work again.

There's a way to reset the unit by holding a couple of buttons in a certain order. I'm sure someone who knows what they are talking about will come along shortly.

After you switch off you have to wait about 10 mins for the unit to power down before switching on will reboot it. To manually reboot the columbus press the < > and i buttons all at the same time (a bit like ctrl alt del) for PC's to restart the columbus.

Just to add to what mannyo has said, on the newer Columbus, the 'i' button has been replaced by a button with a picture of a microphone. This needs to be pressed down along with < and > until the screen goes blank.

Failing that............................yank the fuse out and leave it to think about it's bad behaviour for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Hi all,

Thanks for all the replies. I fixed it by putting in a CD...this seemed to magically bring it back to life! Has been fine since.

Matt.

Coming home this evening my Columbus stared fine but no sound . Nothing unusual in that. Just had to switch it off and back on again.
