thanks

Based on what happened with my wife's car, my money is on the MAP sensor. A diagnostic scan will confirm, but you can get an idea if you unclip the sensor from its wiring. If doing this DOESN'T make the car run worse, then it's pretty likely the sensor is on its way out (depending how degraded it is, it may force the car into 'limp mode' and make it run better - but not brilliantly - compared to how it runs now!).

You can find the MAP sensor at the back of the engine, sticking in the inlet manifold (depending how mechanically-minded you are, it's the square-ish thing held in by two screws below and behind the black slug thing in the picture!)

(Ignore the yellow oval, it's for something else!)

A new sensor is about 25 quid off eBay or 50 quid from a dealer. I ended up getting a dealer one for my wife's car after the eBay one I got was delivered faulty. It might have been damaged in transit, but I didn't want to chance it second time around. It's up to you!

With any luck, your fuel consumption should improve a little, too, if it IS the MAP sensor that's gone...
