DPF problems/removal

Featured Replies

Hi all, i'm going to have a re-map sometime soon by Ben at Shark but i was wondering whether to have the DPF removed or not. I've heard it mentioned on here that some people have experienced problems with their DPF but i was wondering what are the signs of a faultering DPF and would you recommend have it removed before the re-map? Its about £200 extra but you get about 15 hp more and even more torque. Also, would the standard clutch handle this extra torque or would i need to upgrade? Sorry to ramble but i'm typing this on my phone.

Seeing as your car is out of warranty £200 would disappear fast if you did have issues....not had any problem with my current car 'cos it's a CR, but previous PD played up if not doing any longer journeys for a while.

The DPF on my 08 vRS PD has blocked and gone into limp mode a couple of times in its 3 year life. That's despite doing over 50 motorway miles per day.

The last time I was told it was the sensors that were playing up and it wasn't actually blocked at all.

Personally I would have it removed if you are going to Shark anyway. The PD engine seems to produce a lot of soot especially when re-mapped and it could be that you are having to regenerate it every few hundred miles. It's a massive pain if it goes into limp mode.

Get it removed!

The extra cost isn't that much and by getting DPF and remap done at the same time you'll save time and probably some money too.

Thanks for the advice guys. Will removal of the DPF have any effect on emissions i.e it wont fail the MOT will it?

And will the standard clutch and flywheel by ok with the extra torque?

Ps....and would i need to tell my insurance company??!!

AFAIK MOT is only soot test-no emissions so OK there;

Clutch & flywheel will be fine-loads of members including myself have TDI's with remaps-no bothers;

You'll want to tell your insurance about the remap I'd reckon. Doubt the DPF removal will make any difference-they probably wouldn't know what it is even! :giggle:

DPF removal would likely count as performance improvement, and if you're telling them about the remap no point not telling them about the DPF.

Right, i've taken your advice and i've spoken to Ben at Shark, the DPF is history! I'll be having it mapped asap. Thanks lads.

Good move. Ben'll see you right. :thumbup:

My insurance is £430 including DPF removal, map and a host of other mods. That's with Brentacre.
