Yeti drivers seat height compared to....

Featured Replies

One of the justifications I had in ordering a Yeti was the seat height to aid my joints (and thats the aching sort, not ball joints, strip joints, spliffs or any other kind of joint).......and the Yeti seemed higher than the Roomster (but I didn't try a Scout) and I didn't try an Octavia of any sort. Anyone think that these two could equal the Yeti in seat height? I don't but haven't actually put it to the tape measure test. Assuming they don't measure up I'm still justified in my purchase.

'Encyclo' online encyclopedia show 25 different meanings for the word 'joint' and that's without adding a word in front to form a phrase or name, as it were. A prize of a new Yeti 4x4 diesel, available next week, will be awarded to the contributor coming up with the highest number of 'joints.'

PS. I lie a lot.

The seat is a lot higher off the floor in Elsie, than the seat in my old Octavia.

I'm almost 6' and I have it as high as I canemoticon-0136-giggle.gif still plenty of head room for 'a big Afro'emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

That darn mirror is a pain though.....

Sorry, should have looked. So it's higher and you still find it blocks half your vision..... ...Oh dear.

But my eyes are looking out of the top 6" of the screenemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I have tried sitting lower, but I can't do it. I end up pressing the no1 button and raising the seat (I have the leaky seat)

Even in the lower positions, the seats are a good height off the ground. This means that you slide into the seat and you do not need to lower yourself as you would in a saloon.

As you may be aware from my previous posts, I am of that certain age that can remember seeing the Coronation live on telly!!??!! so I am not too happy when I have to climb in and out of cars. The driver's seat in Betty is in the lower position so that I can see out under the mirror but its location still means easy access and no "climbing". Much of this has to do with the good ground clearance that puts the floorpan a good 6" above most saloon cars.

Seats in Yeti are a fair bit higher than those in Roomster Scout. Those in Roomster Scout are correspondingly higher than those in the Octavia (non Scout).

Never measured it but gain the impression of the differences when driving.

The Yeti has lovely seats for sure, especially the electric variety as I have. I do however find that the seats are further inboard than I'd like. It is as if there is a far bigger bit of car to traverse when getting in and out than other cars I'm used to. I feel as if I'm brushing my legs against the dirty car every time I get in and out. Maybe it is just me. I'd hate to get in and out of a Yeti with those chrome side steps.

Johann,

It's a bigger car than you are used to!

It's about the same as the Octavia.

Thanks for replies.....it would seem all are agreed that in reality it is higher than the other two.

+ 1

I too have both a Yeti and Roomster Scout (the Scout model is by the way, no different to other Roomsters, the Scout spec is purely equipment/cosmetic) the Yeti is definitely higher.

I used to have an Octavia vRS and this is lower than either Yeti or Roomster. The Octavia Scout is slightly lower than a Yeti but higher than an ordinary Octavia.

Overall the Yeti is a joy to get into and IMHO just the right height, not too low or high, and I'm sure the OP will be fine in his Yeti. I have an arthritic right hip that will need a 'replacement' at some stage but after only having my Yeti for three weeks now my hip is far less troublesome than it was before; possibly also helped by having the DSG gearbox and 'left foot braking' (dodgy right ankle has eased up hugely as well).

Oldstan; have faith, you've made a good choice.

Further confirmation in the last couple of posts....and from the horses mouth too, as it were, in the form of bs vrs's first hand experience of owning both vehicles (I was under the misapprehension the Scout was jacked up....another lesson learned).

And re. the sill issue, clearly all that is required is that we don a pair of cycle clips when using the car. Can't see any problems there....although it would probably be advisable to remove them before attending work, appointments, shops, doctors, Sunday Mass etc. It might be OK for the likes of you and I to greet the Priest wearing cycle clips, :nerd: but there are some strange people about you know.

I can imagine this happening but avoid it myself.

Due to my dodgy right hip I take the gentile route to getting out of Yeti, of swivelling round in my seat and putting both legs/feet out onto the ground and then use the door frame to pull/push myself up and out. This avoids contact with the door sills.

I more often than not do this to protect my back. No dodgy hip/joints.

Off topic somewhat....

Does anyone find the doors of the Yeti heavy to open? My wife says she has to push it open with her foot, and that she finds it much heavier than my previous Octy. Any thoughts?

I have a dodgy back as well; a legacy of Rugby.

Hadn't noticed any particular difference between the two for weight.

Perhaps the difference is generated by the Octavia having a longer door so you get more leverage/less effort into opening it.
