annoying noise

Featured Replies

I now have my Yeti almost 4 weeks and am delighted with it in every way except for one very annoying rattle/light vibration from the dash area directly behind the centre air-vent area on the centre console. It's not present all the time but very noticeable when accelerating and going up through the gears. When I press on the surround of the the air-vent it seems to lessen most of the time. I'm tempted to remove the air-vents to investigate and am wondering if this is (a) easy to remove or (B) a good idea?, should I just go back to the dealer or go at it myself? anyone had a similar annoyance?

get a dealer tech to have a quick look mate, no point messing yourself if its brand new thats what warrentys are for lol

Deep down I think your'e probably right, it's just a pain in the affected area going through the rigmarole of booking it in etc. Anyhow wont let it ruin my enjoyment of a wonderful car. I have returned this evening from a 500 mile round trip visiting SWMBO mother in our 2.0TDI ,returning avg 49.7MPG on a mix of motorway and country roads and stepping out of it feeling as fresh as if I had done a journey half as much. This is my fourth new Skoda having previously owned a 1999 Felicia estate SD, then a Fabia 1.4 and then onto a Octavia Combi 1.9 TDI.

Is your fuel consumption taken from the maxidot or actual consumption? Our 2.0 tdi maxidot is 11% optimistic!

My last three new or ex demo Skodas have suffered dash rattles :S Wish they fitted them as they did up to 2003. Solid as a rock back then  think it's an endemic thing with modern materials and finding space for safety associated bit's and pieces.

The Maxi-dot was quoting a variation all through the voyage ranging from 56.0 down to 53.6, the figure I quote is brim to brim and TBH is the only figure I trust having started driving in 1975. I do however enjoy scrolling through all the readings on a long motorway journey.I have read on this and other forums that the on-board computers vary up to 10% ?

I am sooper rattle sensitive myself - they drive me nuts. I would definately have the dealer sort it - it is hell trying to chase rattles - they don't always arise where they appear to - if that makes any sense. I do quite a bit of work setting up guitars - chasing rattles is all part of that game too, and sometimes confounds the brain!

Sounds about right. We get around 50mpg on a long run and about 45 around town. True measurements of course.

Thats bang on for my readings given that the cars not even broken in yet. I tend to follow the Honest John running -in procedure for a diesel and to be honest this procedure has not been far wrong yet.

I'm an Honest John man also! Our car has only done 3500 miles and all of that in bad weather with winter tyres.

Nice to meet another Honest John aficionado!. To be honest I tend to subscribe to the Italian Tune Up philosophy for an engine if theres a problem or to put it another way " just clearing out the pipes Dear" !

When i first had my golf i noticed a rattle from the same area you describe , I too was tempted to have a look but decided to pop it into the dealers to check and am i glad i did it was a airbag holdings that had not been done up correctly .

My advice take into the dealers thats what warranty is for and it may be a safety issue like mine was so earlier the better.

Well Peter I took your advice (finally !) and visited my dealer today and the workshop foreman accompanied me while I drove the car and thankfully he heard the rattle ( we all know the feeling when you take the car in with a fault and it just miraculously disappears ! ). The garage have me booked in for 14.30 tomorrow and hopefully will sort out the problem.

Well I'm just back from dealers and I'm delighted to say they seem to have sorted out my noisy dash. They removed the centre air vents and say they discovered the air-vent unit was vibrating up against the underside of the dash, apparently they were able to adjust the angle of the vents and glad to say it's now silent. However they forget to reset the airbag warning light (having disconnected the passenger air bag indicator on vent assy) but I noticed before driving away so a quick application of the laptop and away I went enjoying a noise free drive home. So thanks guys for all advice and I now agree that any probs let dealer sort them !
