Well! Just found this topic. At my last service I asked them to look at a noise that I was getting from the rear wheels at around 20 mph and around 40 mph, sounding like bearings. The technician came out from the back and offered to go for a test drive to see precislely what i meant but said it would most likely be tyre wear. He came out and it was. When they took the car in for the service it needed new rear tyres due to uneven wear, and sawtoothing.

I said I thought that this was a short life compared to what my previous Octavia and previous cars had managed on their rear tyres. But I was told that this was not a set up problem, and down to my driving style. Pulman VW Durham (Skoda Service). So the SUK message is not getting out as far as it should or is being hidden.

Octavia II L&K 2.0 DTi DSG. 26000 miles on OEM tyres (Potenza RE050).

THE TYRES THEY HAVE PUT ON THE CAR ARE:

Dunlop SP Sport SP01 225/45/17/91W :wall:

That was October 2012. I've only done 2000 miles or so on them, and have now got winter tyres on till April.

So I can look forward to a shorter life on the new ones. Great news.

Cheers Michael. I don't think they did anything to check to be honest but at least by doing this I have given them the opportunity to put things right. If it doesn't work I feel I can then insist on the geometry and by them replacing tyres foc, it indicates that they feel liability.

Fell walker. If your geometry is already out it might start chewing your winter tyres, may be worth getting a check done. Is your car under warranty?

I also have the same sawtooth or castellation problem with my 2011 Octavia estate DSG . Generally I'm pleased with the car I bought new. However I complained about a wheel bearing noise when it was a few months old. . Uneven tyre wear I was told not bearings. Just swap back tyres to front and that will sort the problem. It didn't now am on the second set of rears and the noise is really loud. Unfortunately I have no record of my complaint and am out of warranty and didn't renew it when I had the opportunity. Has anyone had Skoda fix their tracking when their car was out of warranty with 30k on the clock?

You haven't a hope mate.

Find a good alignment specialist that thinks beyond the factory specs & get it set up properly.  Get it done with a full tank of fuel & whatever other crap you normally carry in the rear.  Aim for less than 1 degree -ve camber (say -0.5 to -0.8).  IIRC the rears toe in but you'd only want 1-2mm.
