18" Steel Wheels for MK2 Octavia

Featured Replies

Ok, so I've been looking at steels on ebay to be my winter wheels assuming that this is a good time to buy ie i'm going to be the only one thinking about winters in june!

I've found a couple of set of these 17" van wheels but it appears that the T5 is 5x120 not 5x112. Updating the thread to avoid anyone else wasting time..

Ah yes..... when I posted that I was under the impression they would fit. But people soon found out the same with the T5 centre caps! They fall off at a rate of knots! So only VW Caddy van centre caps will fit and wheels.

Have a look at this VERY useful list on the VW Caddy forum:

So for size: 16" these will fit (and they are all silver to boot. I hate the black ones I have):

Size: 16 " 6J X 16 Vitus, Silber" VW

PCD: 5X112

ET: 50

Tyres: 205/55/16

Partnumber: 1T4 071 496 A 666

Size: 16 " 6J X 16 Sima, Silver" VW

PCD: 5X112

ET: 50

Tyres: 205/55/16

Partnumber: 1T4 071 496 C 8Z8

Size: 16 " 6,5J X 16 Enea , Silver" Seat

PCD: 5X112

ET: 50

Partnumber: 5P0 601 025 J 72V

Size: 16 " 6,5J X 16 Elio , Silver" Seat

PCD: 5X112

ET: 50

Partnumber: 5P0 601 025 K 72V

I am considering purchasing a very cheap 4x4 for this winter, perhaps a freelander. Buy one for a grand, run it for 4 months then punt it again in the spring for (hopefully) what you paid for it.

If you're thinking Freelander don't forget to factor in AA relay and consequential loss insurance ;)

Yes look at the latest Driver Power survey by Autoexpress magazine. See this thread in the Yeti forum:

http://briskoda.net/...ost__p__2352649

From that:

The Freelander 1 (that came 93rd):

91st - Build quality

87th - Ease of driving

100th - Reliability (yes BOTTOM of the pile as the most unrealiable car in the country!)

95th - Handling

48st - Practicallity

41st - Comfort

87th - Braking

47th - Ride Quality

90th - Performance

99th - Running costs (yes 99th!)

I think a set of winter wheels will cost far, far less even if someone gives you a Freelander for FREE!

....and unless the Freelander has winter tyres fitted it will struggle for traction, brake and corner worse than your 2wd car on winters.

It is stopping and road holding that makes the difference between a crash and a near miss in wintry conditions, not the ability to simply get going a bit easier over a 2wd car on summer tyres!

Other than all that though, it's a great idea!
