18" Steel Wheels for MK2 Octavia

Featured Replies

Just out of interest.

What 18" dia steel wheels fit the mk2 Octavia and what are the fitment details?

I'll keep my eyes out for some winter wheels

112 X 18

Offset 35 to 51

Thanks Chris,

Thought I might get some standard steels off a passat or something else that might fit. I'll start looking around.

You'd be much better off with a 16" rim for winter wheels, as the higher profile winter tyres would be more effective, and (probably) much cheaper than their 18" equivalents.

Agree. I'd use 17s as a max for winters. Unless you mean just winter wheels, and not winter tyres to go on them? Just that winter rubber in that size is uber expensive!

Can you even get 18" steels? I thought the biggest OE steels from VAG were 16".

I've heard of 17" steels on an Espace before, and 18" space saver steels (super narrow) from Mercedes, but that's it.

I'd be very surprised if you find any steels bigger than 16". Steels from any VAG car with 5x112 PCD should fit, with the offset as above. You may be able to pick up some 2nd hand alloys as cheap-I bought some 2nd hand steelies with summer tyres on, then got my winters fitted on the rims instead. A mate bought the summer tyres from them as they were reasonable, so I ended up paying out v.little. :smirk: I have now picked up some A3 alloys like these for £60! (& they are in far better condition!!) I plan to use them next year, as I can't be bothered to pay out for swapping the tyres again.

I'd look towards the A8 for steelies in this size. The Phaeton too.

Think those would be the only options for something this size, but I can't definitely recall seeing something suitable either. And they were probably a Euro-only option anyway, given the UK obsession with alloys :)

I guess the smallest size Octimark will be able to fit will be 17"/18" due to the massoove S3 brakes B) (i'm sooo jealous)

You can fit 17s under the S3 stoppers...just! Carl proved this

Can't remember whether spacers were required or not though? :mmm:

I think he had to take the spacers off to fit the R32 set up!

They need to fit over S3 brakes with 345mm discs.

Offset, wheel width, spoke design and distance at the back of the spokes from the hub in order to clear the caliper would all come into play Mark, with any winter 17s you found. Can understand why you're trying to find 18s

The only reason I can think of for wanting 18" steels is to re-use existing 18" rubber, and so save the alloys from the wear and tear of winter.

Maybe OP will explain?

It's all explained in the previous posts?? :wonder:

The Volkswagen T5 van in 180hp guise does come with 17" steel wheels. They do come up on eBay from time to time but are very, very scarce. They look like this:

BUT you will pay for winter rubber. A LOT more. So as others have said I'd suggest the 16" route as well.

Thanks 900000.

16" wheels arent an option as they wont fit over the brakes.

Looks like a cheap set of alloys is the way forward. I'll have to see if some 17's fit B)

Theres a few posts about winter wheel's but in a nutshell the reason I want some is:

1. To save the excellent condition alloys from the ravage's of winter and salt corrosion.

2. I can swap the wheels with minimal effort. Its a diy at home job rather than having to take the car to a garage to swap the tyres on the current alloys.

3. Generally speaking (but not so much with larger wheels) the steels are narrower and allow for a better choice of tyres that will halp in snowy conditions (higher profile and narrow tread the opposite of a sports tyre).

4. In the long run its a cheaper option that offers maximum flexability.

Have you got a part number for those?

Have you got a part number for those?

Alas no (I copied those pics ages ago from a seller on eBay). But any VW Van Centre will give it to you. I've phoned them before asking about 16" silver steel wheel prices and part numbers. And as I said they only do this one 17" steel wheel AFAIK - so should be easy enough for them to find for you.

OK, I fully understand why you'd want winter tyres. My question was why 18" instead of the more commonly used 16". I now understand, hopefully OP can find some 17s before the spring arrives :)

Also remember that even if the OP finds 18" winter tyres and pay top whack for them, they probably will last the life of the time he will own said car... So in the end it does not really matter that 16" versions are cheaper. When the winters are on the summers are not putting miles on and vice versa. Win win both ways even if the winters were expensive...

Ok, so I've been looking at steels on ebay to be my winter wheels assuming that this is a good time to buy ie i'm going to be the only one thinking about winters in june!

I've found a couple of set of these 17" van wheels but it appears that the T5 is 5x120 not 5x112. Updating the thread to avoid anyone else wasting time..
