coilovers?

Featured Replies

hi, was just wondering if coilovers for a octavia 1.8 t would fit the vrs both front wheel drive

cheers kev

They will fit, but ideally you want specific a VRs set up. That said, the vrs and a standard 1.8t must weigh very nearly the same so it shouldn't effect the handling too adversely.

Does the 1.8t models share the same anti roll bar setup as the vrs

no, you need vrs specific coilovers, weitecs are the forum favourites

No you dont 1.8T ones will fit fine!

There are a few reason why you wouldnt,

Firstly the anti roll bar link goes from the ARB to the strut on an RS but not on the lesser cars it goes to the suspession arm so in thise case it wouldnt matter if its a vrs kit on a normal 1.8t

Also the only real differense, might!!! might be the spring and damper rates.

If you were going to fit a kit designed for a petrol car on a diesel i wouldnt do it due to the weight difference between the two engines but as the 1.8T and the rs have the same lump give or take the weight should be here or there the same so therefor the spring rates wont be very different if at all

So yes it will fit fine as long as its not an estate! because once again the weight issue

People just dont seam to undertsnad spring and damper rates and how they are worked out for what cars!!

Sorry got it round the wrong way.thought you were fitting rs coilovers to an 1.8T!!! not they wont fit due to the anti roll bar shpe and were the links go, my bad!! lol

I run weitec hicon gt coilovers on my vrs and can't fault them in any way, you will need specific ones for the vrs tho

Apart from the ARB links being different, what is the difference between vrs and non-vrs kits? Like Dannyboy said, the weight is pretty much the same. The OE dampers have different part numbers by 1 letter, but that's probably becuase the vrs is lower than normal.

Diesels I can understand having different dampers - Again, becuase of the weight difference, they need to absorb more energy when the heavier engine is bouncing up and down.

Does anyone know?

For some brands you need ones that are VRS specific to ensure you have the ARB attachment on the actual strut, always best to check.

No they wont. (Unless they come with droplink mounts on the struts, or unless you change to a "normal" FARB, and droplinks.)

Everything will fit fine apart from the vRS droplinks wont have anywhere to attach to (as others have said they attach to the stuts not wishbones). But you can't simply swap the droplinks for shorter ones, because the shape of the ends of the vRS FARB is totally different to the ends of the standard FARB (not allowing you to connect a vRS FARB to the wishbones).

Your safest bet is to find a kit that is either vRS specific, or lists the vRS model under applications.

I've had a set of Weitec Hicon GT coilovers fitted for over 1.5yrs now, and they are great. Got them from our friend Damian! http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/weitec-hicon-gt-coilover-suspension-kitbr-octavia-1u-14-16-rs-18t-19sdi-19tdi-20-fwd-0197-p-1590.html
