Featured Replies

As above i read a few ppl had doen this so though i would try it put it on today and now my mpg is really bad , when idle it goes from 27 down to like 20 any ideas thanks

Your mpg when idling goes down from 27 to 20 at what speed? :) It's an interesting stat, I'll give you that.

Good question! And why have people suddenly talking about EGR gaskets today? Not sure I've seen it discussed before, then I see multiple threads about it today :S

I know - what's with that?! :) I might have to do mine, just to not feel left out. :giggle:

ken - the only thing I can think of is your engine is now really struggling to warm up without the EGR (exacerbated by it being winter and cold).

I'd also say you might need to take the car out on a run, get everything warmed up. ECU might also need to adapt slightly for the EGR adjustment.

What is an EGR gasket and whtat does changing it do to the car?

It cures a stutter in the mid range revs on PD diesel engines. Many can live with it, some cars are more noticeable than others. I had it done on my Fabia as it was annoying and harder to drive smoothly. Much better after except it does throw up Emissions warning light every now and then.

It's all emissions related. On the Fabia it was most noticeable as in order to hit Euro4 regs, they had to make adjustments. Their plan consisted of changing to a different EGR valve and fitting a restrictive gasket. Amusing then that the CO2 emissions of these later Mk1 vRSes was higher than my original 53-plate version! :giggle:

So fitting a different sized gasket should cure the stutter, as the EGR is able to operate more freely.

I want one!

Is it easy to fit?

And should i tell Ben at Shark about it before he does my re-map? Or is it not worth changing it if i'm having it mapped?

If you're noticing a stutter then yes, get one. Its a Seat part.

If it's a problem then I'd have it done before the map. Or discuss with Ben and he might be able to fit it beforehand.

Had mine fitted for ages now and it cured my stutter after i read about it for PD130 engine not had a drop in MPG either and for £2 its a Mod you can afford to try

You sure its not doing a regen?

Think we might need an update from the OP about this, once the car's been out on a drive with this fitted :)

Thanks, did you fit at the top of the engine?

I believe that those who have changed the gasket on their Fabias have seen more of an improvement by changing the gasket at the other end.

I haven't looked under the engine cover yet on the Octavia but i think it may be more difficult to get to?

Does it matter what end you change?

Is the EGR gasket also for the 2.0PD 170 vRS ??

eanyone got a partnumber?

Yes, part number is:-

028131547B

Yep, think there are more cases of stutters on the PD170, than the PD140.

And that Part Number should be a Seat one, only available from their dealers?
