Finally got round to a test drive

Featured Replies

Whilst my Oct'y is being fettled at the dealers, i took this morning as an opportunity to have a 1/2hr in a Fabia Vrs,

Wow, wasn't expecting that :o

Had a very enjoyable time, wasn't expecting so much low down grunt. and the mid range torque, felt just as Strong as my Oct'y.

Enjoyed the flappy paddles, only criticism is you can change to manual by just clicking the paddles but to get back to fully Auto you need to nudge the 'stick left then right, unless there is another way.

Overall i got 24mpg which i didn't think was too bad, but would like to see what everyday mpg people are getting over a full tank and "normal" driving.

My dealer is going to email me some figs later,

Now to convince the good lady wife that she needs a Fabia Vrs as opposed to her Oct'y est that does 65mpg with out trying!!

So i won't hold my breath

if you hold the shift up paddle in, it goes back into drive i think. might be wrong though

Correct.

Also goes back into drive if no gear is selected manually for a while, or if almost stopped / stopped.

I sure on a YouTube vid that shows the different ways you can change gear in a DSG. It shows the manual override in auto mode last. I think in that vid, it goes back to auto mode when you come to a stop. I've never been in a DSG car so I don't know if there are other ways of doing it.

No, no other way in auto mode.

Many thanks, thought there would be another way, was having to much fun to worry about it to much :giggle:

Stick with the Octy, it will be cheaper in the long run, and the kids with their stuff will go into the octy easier, maybe once they are teens & they dont want to go out with parents, it is a good time to downsize one of the cars.

Im surprised you hadnt driven the little vRS earlier.

I don't know if it's been cleared up yet about overriding the auto by using the paddles, but this is what happens on a Golf DSG. He explains it from about half way through the vid.
