Which tool for extracting oil sump plug?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I am trying to change the oil in my Skoda Fabia 1.4. Unfortunately, I get as far as realising I don't have a suitable tool for extracting the oil plug at the bottom of the sump! Does anyone know exactly what I need?

Thanks,

Nick Hill

I believe it to be a 19mm hex, so a socket or spanner.

Have a look at this thread

PL

On an MPI it's an 8mm allen key.

The Fabia VRS as stated by fellow member has a 19mm nut on which a 6 sided socket will fit, to remove.

You say extract? does that mean you need some sort of 4 - 6 sided key to place inside head to enable it to be turned??

The gear-box on a Fabia VRS has a special key socket for it's removal, and must assume that you are not attempting to remove a similar nut on your gear-box ?

1.4 TDI 2007 model is 19 mm socket - did mine again on Thursday.

Trust me people, on an AQW which is a 1.4 MPI petrol it's an 8mm allen key.

Car:Skoda Fabia 1.4 MPI OHV AQW (2003) - I would imagine it is! :D

people seem to assume on this forum that everyone is driving a fabia vrs :giggle:

Have you considered using a pump? I find it very convenient. Used to drain from the sump plug, but I get the same amount out with the pump and it's so much quicker and less messy - have done about 10 changes with it now.

It is a pela pump that I use - about £40 off ebay.
