Radio always off?

Recommended Posts

Since the cold weather, my radio that always used to come on when I switched the ignition on now stays off until I switch it on. Search as I might I can't find a setting that control's this, I'm sure there must be a magic button press that someone out there will know :)

Thanks

Have you tried switching the radio on without the engine running - then start the ignition, switch off the ignition while the radio is still on then remove the key, it SHOULD come on next time you turn on the ignition.

Pound to a penny that your Octavia is maybe 2 to 3 years old? THis same fault happened to my last Octavia when it was this old, I started a thread on it and I think we came to the conclusion that this was the ECU going into self preservation mode when it detects low voltage in the battery. In other words, your battery is due replacement. I managed to put up with the problem for roughly 12 months before trading the car in, never had any problems starting the car and the only symptom of a soon to be dead battery was the radio not powering on with the ignition.

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks for this, didn't think of that. I have noticed in the colder weather it has been harder to start than normal in fact it has felt like a flat battery a few times, but now it's warmed up all is ok again! Maybe a battery change is in order then!
