Various Warning Light And Breakdown

Featured Replies

Hello, I recently (Saturday) bought my first Skoda, a Fabia 1.4 16v. I got half way home from the garage when 3 warning lights came up! EPC, Engine and traction control. When I got home I turned the engine off and back on again and all went off apart from the engine one. I went out for a drive on Sunday night and did around 50 miles, the engine light went off a few minutes after starting up but came on again about 20 minutes later to then go off again an hour later and all 3 back on 5 minutes later!

I drive to work this morning for the first time in the car and everything went ok, the engine light was on but nothing happened. On my way home was a diffrent story though. I pulled out onto a roundabout and the engine just died and went into a crawl mode. I managed to get off the roundabout and turned everything off. I didnt see which lights came on (I was in panic mode) but im sure it was a few. I turned it back on and the battery light was showing with the other 3 warning lights. This went off again when I turned it off and on again.

I managed to get it home safely but the engine light is still on. Im quite worried to drive to work tomorrow aswell as I cannot get to the garage until the weekend. I got a months warrenty with the car so reluctant to take it to a garage where I live (60 miles from garage).

Is there anything this could be that is known off and anything I can do to fix it?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks Llana :)

If there's a warranty with the car, get on the blower to them first thing in the morning, give them hell & demand they sort it out.

I can't help with the diagnostics, but it does not sound good!

Needs a code scan, but spurious lights can be water in the wiring loom. Given the faults occurred on your way home after purchase, take it back.

Was driving home tonight and a red battery light poped up :( would this still happen if its water in the loom? I've got a friend who has a VAG-COM so going to get that later and see what pops up. Could it just be a flat battery?

Usually alternator sense wire broken, or faulty alternator.

Without a fault code check though it's anyones guess.

I havn't cleared any of them, want to ensure the garage will be able to see them all on saturday. It appears there is more than one thing wrong...

Think I would be asking for my money back with that list of faults. Any decent garage would of at least cleared the fault codes before they sold it!

EDIT------------

Looking back at the list, there doesnt seem to be much major there. It could just be a old code pulling up a warning light! might be worth getting him to have a look though!!!!
