Strut Brace - Finally Done I

Featured Replies

I've finally got round to painting and fitting the Strut Brace.

Colour is an off the shelf can of Ford Modena Green from Halfrauds.

Two coats of Grey Primer followed by two coats of the Kermit.

Fitted it this morning.

Nice one - that looks spot on

Very smart and nice colour

Are you fitting a lower one too?

Very nice, much better than the red.

If I could bear to take mine of again i'd to the same, but to be honest its been off so many times I just wanna leave it where it is...lol.

Very nice, colour looks good, better than I thought it would. The Skoda badge in the middle of the engine bay helps it fit in perfectly. The green on the wheel calipers is also helped by the green on wheel badges I reckon.

I don't think you get a lower brace for the Fabia...?

My calipers are red ;)

Ross? Do you think the strut brace would be a good thing to try and coat in that smooth green hammerite, or do you reckon it would just look streaky and crap? (bear in mind mine will need applying with a brush, not a spray can)

Just went for a peek at your gallery - so they are!! SWMBO has trained me to be highly colour co-ordinated, so I gota say I prefer them in green...althogh red is my fav colour! :)

What was the motivation to go for red in amongst the silver and green?. Have you ever thought about replacing the centre wheel Skoda badges with VRS ones. The little flash of red would make things look nicer I reckon. MAS on here is getting a hold of some.

I like the TT wheels though, very nice what size?

I'm using a tin of the green smooth hammerite just now to paint new callipers. I reckon it would go on okay to the strut brace, just as long as your patient and make a good job of the painting. Its designed to be go on smooth, but would never be quite as nice as something sprayed on. Bet then it will be hidden under your bonnet most of the time. Maybe try it on a spare bit of metal pole you might have kicking about somewhere, then see if the finish is good enough.

Shall do! As its under my bonnet most of the time I may just leave it in red, with the seat sport sticker on it. :D

I think Ross' calipers are red because that's the colour that Brembo tend to paint them. ;)

Looks excellent in green, like it's meant to be there ;)

Hmmm, had stripped and resprayed mine black, but since I've not fitted it yet... that looks pretty sweet... :D

Yeah Brembos are red so I painted the rears to match. TT wheels are 7.5 x 17 and required to clear the brakes.

Jason dont bother painting the brace with a brush it will look turd. Hammerite is meant to paint garage doors etc so the finish on the brushable stuff aint so good as its quite thick, either spray or dont bother.

I'll get me coat!!!

Spot the Octy owner!!! :D

Yes you can get a lower brace for the Fabia, Graeme has one.

that looks really smart, nice one

Left mine red, it colour co-ordinates with the car :D. You can get a lower brace, I've just brought one and waiting for the chance to fit it as I did not have time at work yesterday.

I have one too but having a small problem with the fact the engine hits it when under load :(

Not got the upper fitted yet but the lower one makes a big difference to the way the car feels at turn in.

 I'll need to have a good look before I fit it then.

How easy was it to do John?

PM'd Chavyboy this morning about it.

Had awesome fit it while they were changing my suspension so can't comment on fitting. Did you order the Alloy or steel one. Mine is Alloy and I have a feeling the alloy might be thicker. It just catches the engine when under load. The guy at awesome said he might have to do a bit of cutting and rewelding

All I know is that it's red and the same as chavyboys.

Sounds like the steel one to me. Mine was bright silver.
