How To Get Rid Of.......

Featured Replies

I want to take the rear Octavia badge off the Hatch, i know i need to heat it with a hair dryer to warm the glue and the use some cotten to slid behind the letters to lift them,

Now what do i use to clean the paintwork of any glue left behind, after the letters are off?

Thanks,

I used Autoglym Tar & Glue Remover when i done mine.

Applied a good amount via a cloth, left it for 5 mins, then went back to it with another cloth, and it came away fine.

Then gave the area a quick polish/wax to protect it.

If you have some AS Tardis then use that, if not then you can use White Spirit, just ensure it's not on the paintwork for hours........

you dont need a hairdryer

just some dental floss. very easy.

I then used some AG Super Resin Polish.

There are lots of alternatives:

1 part nail remover to 2 parts water

kerosene

white spirit

WD40

Ok thanks for the advice, will give it a go at the weekend if the weather is fine.

Yep, as said. I used Tardis on my most recent badge removal.

I use some decent weight fishing rod line myself, which acts as the 'saw' through the adhesive. I've never found the need for any heat.

With previous removals, before I got any Tardis, I used WD40 to tidy up the remains.

I usually do it as part of a full detail, as you'll need to protect the paint after using anything petroleum based anyway. And then it's also easier to use a orbital polisher on the bootlid afterwards, with no badge in the way

Almost identical to what I do, although I do use a hairdryer (whatever good it did). It does make polishing, waxing etc that much less fiddly when you remove the badge :)

Well got round to doing the deed,

Being a total fishing novice, i got a few strange looks asking for some fishing line that was stong enough to take car badges off

The badges came off really easy with the line "cutting" through the sticky pads.

With the badges off i was left with lots of "sticky" on the bodywork, so with a large amount of elbow grease an a splash of wd40 every few minutes, i then spent a nice couple of hours cleaning the paintwork.

After that i gave it a good 2 coats of polish and one of selant, it looked nice and clean, i then gave my spolier a couple of coats aswell as it recently been repainted, due to a couple of defects that were there when i bought it. ( done foc by my dealer )

It was only when i got the polish out of my free AG pack that i saw the Tar Remover :dull:

Forgot i had it, might have saved some time!!!

Will try and get a pick up soon.
