Think there is another thread on here about this. I don't think anyone on this forum has mapped their fab vRS yet. apparently the ECU has recently been re-encrypted so that it is (currently) no longer possible to re-map wia the OBD port... :'(

I would hope some of the tuning companies would be working on a way round this....

I think there are some who will open the ECU for you to do a remap (?p-torque), but personally I wouldn't go down this route.... wouldn't let anyone near my ECU with a soldering iron!

what about a tuning box? to be removed when visiting a skoda dealer ? ;) here http://www.tmcmotorsport.com/CarProducts.aspx they say they do one for the vRS with similar figures as quoted by the maps for the seat?

opinions?

dont do a tuning box. Currently REVO and shark performance etc are all working on a method of bypassing the encryptions.

Either way the ECU will have to be removed to map it. But im pretty sure there wont be any soldering. that is from the old days with 'chip tuning' when they soldered on a new chip over the existing one etc. its just a more hands on version of remapping via the OBDII port.

even with the previous 'bypass-able' encryptions, they still remove the ECU to map it.

however P-Torque are able to map the Fabia vRS as they have already bypassed the new encryptions.

They also have an excellent reputation and are potentially cheaper than the others mentioned above.

but the TMC tuning box is 215ps and £250, and there would be no tampering with the ECU.... wouldn't this be an option?

this will draw into the remap vs tuning box argument of which there a multitude of threads on them. The tuning box tricks the ECU into thinking theres different loads, fuel inputs etc, to make it produce more power, previously they were just a resistor in a box, but now they are slightly more technical but still do the same thing. ie fool the ECU. A remap actually changes all the minute details within the ECU itself rather than just tricking it.

each to their own, but theres no way id have one, i know of a few people who have had major issues, id much rather have a reputable remapper (not some micky-mouse guy in a van with an ebay remap)

You have spent 13-15k on your lovely new car, why would you skimp on the tuning when it could potentially screw your engine.

heres an example of how REVO broke the last encrytpion. Shark performance do a similiar method. So no soldering iron, just a probe

JKM are very pleased to announce that we have taken receipt of the new Revo SPX hardware and Revo Crypt-X software for tuning cars with year 2010 anti tuning measures!

If you know that your car has an antitune (locked) ECU type and it has been previously not been possible to tune it - contact JKM as we are now ready to take bookings!

Below we have included some brief information on this new tuning equipment.....

revospx3.jpg

What is Revo SPX/Crypt-X

The Revo SPX/Crypt-X package is exclusively used by Revo dealerships as a solution to the factory updated ECU security currently seen on V.A.G year 2010 (onwards) vehicles with Bosch MED17 and EDC17 ECU’s.

These ECU types can not currently be remapped by reflashing via the On Board Diagnostics (OBD) port. This security is being referred to by various parties as the ‘MY2010 issue’, or ‘anti-tuning measure’.

What is this security?

This is an enhanced version of ECU security that’s been incorporated in Bosch ECU’s since the launch of EDC16 ECU’s. On some year 2010 vehicles the ECU uses a Digital Signature that cannot be bypassed via an OBD port flash, instead the ECU needs to be removed from the vehicle and opened in order for a probe to be placed on the board in order to bypass the Digital Signature.

revospx2.jpg

How do we know which vehicles are affected by this security?

Revo recommend that all vehicles are treated as not having the digital signature when they first visit JKM as there is no tell tale sign to if a car has antitune software present or not, Cars can have the same ECU number and software version but some will have the lock out  and others not so

If a vehicle is affected the ECU will still take a Revo file as normal via an OBD flash, however the flash will either not complete or once completed the ECU won't come out of reflash mode. In this scenario in order to get performance code onto the car, the ECU will need to be removed and the Revo SPX and Crypt-X software will be used to disable the Digital Signature allowing a performance file to be loaded!

Any questions guys, please let us know.

JKM B)

Nothing wrong in removing the ECU to remap, mine was done this way on my Mk1. In my case there was a problem using the OBD port, so other solution is to remove the ECU. Nothing dangerous in doing that.

Don't skimp with a tuning box, as Janner_Sy said why spend out on a new car, to throw a poor attempt at a remap at it?

Get on the blower to P-Torque!

P Torque also offer DSG7 remaps as well, so you could have both. Id consider going PTorque myself.

REVO are releasing their stage 2 software along with the miltek exhausts on March 1st from what i gather its pretty impressive

convincing arguments guys, thanks for the information

teh results i posted in the other thread for the Ibiza cupra will be identical to the fabia as they are mechanically/electrically identical.

the only difference could be on the road where different weight/aerodynamics could have an effect.

Yeh they don't half sound good giving it the beans I must say!

I can also vouch for P-Torque, Will's a mate of mine and he's mapped all of my cars in the past, my Octavia VRS will be straight there once it's delivered and he can defeat the encrypted ecu's.

im going with Shark Performance. Used them before, and it was alot better than the bluefin it replaced. And you'll find nothing but praise on here for them. Add to that top customer service etc and you cant go wrong IMO.

REVO make great figures, they always do, but ill always have it in my mind that maybe its pushing it to far. REVO was the remap to have in the GTI forums on the 2.0TFSI. I think people are slowly starting to move away from them now, as moe andmore people have customer service issues etc.

My preference would be in this order

Shark performance

APR

P-Torque

REVO
