Octavia 1.9 tdi 90bhp idling issues

Featured Replies

Hi all,I have an issue with the engine on my octavia 1.9tdi. When cold it starts fine but when warm engine revs quite a bit as if somebody press the accelerator.

Also when engine is warming up the idle goes up to 1100rpm for about a minute then it settles to 900rpm.

A friend of mine had had it on the vag com but did not find any faults.

Does anyone know what could cause this?

Any help is much appreciated.

My 90 does this also.

It still runs well, pulls hard (relatively) and gives excellent mpg.

If it ain't bost ... don't fix it !

could be timing related or a dodgy temp sender. sometimes a dodgy temp sender will not put a fault code in so you will need to look at the measuring blocks to see what temp it is saying and see of it is realistic

Hi mate, will have a look into it next week.Thanx for that.Anyway just noticed you run van aaken box on your octy. How do you rate the box?I also have one fitted to mine and it makes the car run much better. It pulls like a train. What fuel consumption do you get on yours? The best I can do is 55mpg.

the box is very good as far as I'm concerened, very little black smoke and pulls like a v8  .

you can adjust the amount of juice it gives if you take the lid off it. if your only getting 55mpg I would look at either your driving style or getting the pump timing checked out as mine will easily get into high 60's on a run. I got 49mpg on a 500 mile round trip towing a car transporter trailer with a car on it (and not slowly either av speed was 49 lol)

Hi all,I have found the fault with the idle issues. It was a faulty coolant temperature sender.Thanx for your replies mates.
