Potential new vRS owner here.

Featured Replies

Hello guys and girls,

Im looking at getting a vRS soon and just wanted to pop along and say hi. Ive been looking through the forums and have a few questions. Im only looking to spend £5000 and want a Mk1 fabia vRS with decent millage (what would you say is good mileage for this price ? 55K-75K??) I really would also love to know what come standard and whats factory options, such as AC/cruise control/HID/xenon head lights any other options worth having?

I LOVE modifying cars and have alot of experience with my other car a nissan 350z twin turbo. This car is HORRENDOUS on fuel now (10-15mpg average <5mpg track!!) so i need something fun, torquey, and good on fuel! Im sure the vRS ticks all the boxes.

I dont mind buying a standard car and just going for a basic remap that should get me a reliable 165-170bhp and 290ish ft/lbs ?? is this correct?

Any tips guys would be great as I dont really know the in's and outs of the vRS yet!

Thanks guys.

Tim.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Have you read this thread yet: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/183327-common-mods-for-the-fabia-vrs/page__p__2198915__hl__popular+mods__fromsearch__1#entry2198915 ?

If not that'll give you a good idea of the common mods.

As for a good price, just to give you an idea, I bought my vRS back in Sept 09 and paid £4900 with 64k on the clock so £5k should get you something in the region you have already stated.

My car is probably the basic spec and as standard came with air con, alloys, normal cloth interior, 6 CD Multi changer and ASR (all I can think of at the moment).

I believe factory fitted extras were Xenons, Leather Interior, Sun roof, Cruise Control, middle headrest for rear passenger and 3 point belt.

Hope that helps a little bit and I'm bound to have missed a few things which I'm sure some one else will fill in ;)

Cheers

Luke

Well after doing some reading on here I'm sure I'm after a vRS now! I like the look of the black magic and the red so if any one knows of a nice lowish mileage car for sale let me know.

Check out the 3 usual places regularly - For sale section here, Pistonheads & on line auto trader, just take your time when choosing one- Happy hunting

I bought a Dec 06 one last Autumn and really love it. Totally different from the fast petrol cars I had before. The cars of later years (ask the experts on here) came out of the factory with a 150 bhp set up so can easily be tuned to about 180 bhp. Mine also has cruise control though Xenons would be nice and apparently if fitted they allow for a bigger 5L screen washer bottle which would be a boon as the 2L standard one is too small and one of the few minor hassles with these cars.

Both engines remap to the same figure

Id look at an ibiza cupra tdi bud

Ssme as a fabia vrs but much stronger parts and 160bhp standard

Stronger pd150/160 garrett turbo

Seat sport fmic good for 250bhp

Ap 4 pot front calipers 312mm discs

17 wheels

Much nicer to look at

All valid, but the last point is one that's debatable....

Yeah depends on personal taste :)

I just had a little look on autotrader (not the be all and end all by any means). £6-7 grand, under 60,000miles. 6 Fabias, between 05-07 plates. Same search for ibiza found one. So they are much more difficult to find in the first place.

Insurance when i looked, cost me more to cover a standard cupra over my modded vrs, this was the same for my mrs when she was looking at various cars. Of course it could be different for someone else, but worth checking.

The 17`s arnt much to shout about, the bend outwards and look a bit akward tbh (personal preference of course) If your going tracking or santapod, you`ll prob want 16`s anyway.

If your after big power then you`ll be getting the turbo hybrid, so it`ll save you a few quid over getting a whole new turbo, and the brakes and FMIC are a plus point, but no means a reason to buy one car over another. Especially it means you end up having to sit inside the ibiza for length of time, not keen on the interior at all, and the outside isnt much better tbh

Its all personal choice really, if your going to keep it fairly standard and like the ibiza to start with then yeah go for it, but otherwise, id get a fabia.

Jase how many fabias vs ibiza`s you had? :giggle:

Matt

Ive had 2 fabia vrs's

One i bought standard and modded to mapped power

Then i bought a hybrid fabia vrs with 5k spent on it

The girlfriend has a 1.4 ibiza sport

I personally prefer the cupra looks and all the extras you get as standard (which most owners buy a vrs and do straight away anyways)

The ibizas also can get mp3 cd players with wheel controls which is nice and a sensible interiour colour

I've had a look at the Ibiza's and I have to say you get more car for the cash but I really think the fabia looks better. Not looked at insurance or anythin but I still think I'm after a fabia.

One quick question is what's the difference between a pre-06 and after 06? I know the gearbox final drive changed and some small changes to the looks but any really mechanical benefit?

I used to have an Ibiza FR TDI which was on coilovers, BBS LM's, smoothed bodywork, interior re-trim, remap, Milltek, sound system etc etc, must say the Ibiza is more sporty looking, Fabia has much better build quality.

Thats good to hear from you if youve owned both cars! Im after a car thats build quality is high and I think the fabias are well made so far from what Ive seen.

Ps. you car in the sig looks just as I would love mine to look!

Agree with that. I've had 3 vRSes and 1 Beeza. Build quality is better with Skoda and the interior and dash is better. And I liked the vRS seat design - least they made an effort :)

MY06 cars got Euro-4 emissions compliance, so had a different EGR system fitted. That's where the stutter you might see mentioned comes from :)

And a different engine code for the PD130, BLT. Tend to run a bit more std power too, but map upto the same point in the end. Same KKK turbo etc.

Gearbox revision was March '04. Facelift lights and a few minor interior changes came late '04, but there is a bit of crossover here from the factory. But generally a 54 onwards will have the newer lights.

HTH,

Steve

All valid, but the last point is one that's debatable....

to be fair neither of them are particular lookers, inside or out

Now then, that's another debate entirely :D

To the OP

Having read through your epic build thread on your Nissan.

I think your Fabia will get a lot af attention and end up being one of the

memorable cars from this site. Particularly if you chuck a similar amount of cash

at it. Your Nissan is wicked mate.....

Look out Devonutopia... ;)

What a brilliant read this was. ---> http://forums.nissansportz.com//index.php?showtopic=23775

Got to say though... it still wouldn't have a 2.0 Fabia

It's a well known fact that the fire breathing 2.0 Fabia was forged in the bowels of hell

given life by satan himself and would spank a Lambo.

Epic Nissan dude!! Well done...
