I/C Waterspray

Featured Replies

I'm going to invest in an I/C waterspray instead of going full on and getting the Seat Sport FMIC as I believe there will be still good benefits to be gained in the hot summer days & maybe winter days if I drive the car hard.

I'm purchasing the unit from Canward Racing Technologies (www.canward.co.uk) - I've been recommended to get the 3 misting nozzle system and i'm also going for the adjustable boost pressure activation switch, which will then activate the system automatically - can be set between 12-24psi as it works of the turbo's boost pressure.

Ok, so what do you all think?

Would be very interested to see how you get on.

Considering new FMIC here before summer arrives.

I have been in touch with them myself, very friendly outfit I must day. They are going to be doing me a kit for my FMIC when its ready.

I had one on my Octy - excellent unit. Got it from www.autospeed.com Easy to install and works really well, highly recommend

My only concern is unless I specify an external resovoir for water then then it's going to take it from my washer bottle meaning I can never put washer fluid in if I want to wash my windows!

Erm, I ran methanol or a high alcohol content screen wash, good cooling and it cleared the screen a treat :D

With the one I had, you could either switch it off or change the kick in point.

I have also contacted these guys and I'm planning on buying one of their kits before my trip to Austria.

So, lemme get this straight? You can get an FMIC which is an improvement on the one tucked in under the bumper, AND using a water spray mist thingie is an improvement ON TOP of this? :D

Yep :)

Do you manually spray this or is it automatic?

Either, the auto one I belive has a switch to turn it on, until you turn it off (it chooses when it needs spraying by the boost on the turbo), or you can go for the manual which also has a switch where in hot weather (or anytime you like really), it sprays the IC for 10 seconds which is enough to dissapate heat for 5 mins of full throttle driving, but you choose when it does it and it's not automatic. I thought a diesel turbo only ran at 1.7 bar after a remap though, so i'd probably opt for the manual one and then atleast if it goes wrong it's me who's controlling it :D

Yep :)

Its great when one word and a smiley says it all!

Get my answerphone message ;) Doesn't matter now though. :D

Got it last night. :(

Not sure if the autospeed one will work with a TDI (I know it works with petrol). Works on difference between ambient air temp and intercooler temp, and on injector duty cycle eg you set it to trigger only when when temp difference is >10 degrees c and when injector duty rate is >80%. Will only fire when both conditions are met. Fully adjustable on both parameters.

Hellfire...

Did you ever get one of these?

I still need to measure how long the delivery bar can be (to fit in the little space there is in front of the IC) and I was just thinking that if you've already got one, they could just make me one from your patern...

I didnt opt for it in the end because I was concerned about a few things such as if it actually worked and in the event of a crash would the crumple zones react in the same way (never saw the unit or had my bumper off but i guess it would have), and also the reliability of the unit & where I would store extra resovoir bottle...

OK, well I'll buy one and let you know what I think :)

I'm going to do the TT Arch Liner Vent mod (or a shanty-town diy version of this, which is more likely) in addition to this.

I understand your safety concerns. I would have thought, because it's such a small device, that this can be mounted to the plastic of the actual bumper...

I'll put a full report on once I've fitted it.

I would be interested to know which vent you eventually decide to buy. Have you seen the one Adrian (SkodiRS) fitted?

Just found this on eBay clicky........

With a live connection and a washer bottle/motor etc you could make one for a tenner.......OK you will need to operate it by hand but........... :D
