02m box into a 4x4 Help Please!

Featured Replies

Did you find out if the driveshafts are required, or just an upgrade (by going TT/S3) ?

During the brief life of my box, I did find the extra gear essential on the motorway to bring the engine rpm out of the boost range.

TBH, I recon a 7th gear wouldn't go amiss

I would have to check but from what my indy was saying one of them for definate as the output shaft position is different due to the extra gear, making one of the driveshafts shorter. I think he changed both of them on mine though.

I did a trek from Bridgend to Cardiff then Newport and back to Bridgend today keeping to 60-70 on the motorway (got a slight vibration so dont want to push it till I can check tracking etc) and got 40MPG on the display for the overall trip :D :D :D :D Most I have ever seen :D :D :D

Maybe instead of 7th you could look at a diesel 6th? that way you have 5 working gears that are correctly spaced and then a 6th that is going to be pure economy on motorways/autobahn/autroute :D 100MPH at 3000rpm :D

If I was having the box rebuilt, I might have pondered the concept of playing around with ratio's, but I'm not ...

... well maybe next time I blow the gearbox up ...

Is the diesel O2M not a completely different ratio setup, with 6th starting at a higher ratio ?

havent looked into it much but I think StevieWonder has a Derv box, would be interesting if you could just change the one gear for super economy though.

Would be handy

2500rpm @ 80mph would ideal for me

Found myself thinking about how an lpg tank might fit in my boot ...

:nerd: How much faster can you go with a 6spd box ?

Gearbox speed ratings

23.7mph/1000rpm in a 5spd

24.1mph/1000rpm in a 6spd (petrol O2M)

anyone got the figures for the derv O2M ?

It appears there's a 5spd O2M 4x4 box, it was fitted to a few early 180bhp TTs'. It's a 6spd shell, but fitted with longer ratio gears, and 6th blanked off.

One's have just fitted one to my car, as compensation for finding a gear missing, a diesel 6th gear is to be fitted. The particular ratio has yet to be decided ...

where as im going the other way and just fitting the 02m diesel 6th into the 6speed petrol 02m, should work just fine :wonder:

Sounds cool

How's the car coming on ?

bloody slowly, im saving for a 2.1 stroker setup, i finaly came to a decision on how im going to build this car so i thought if im going to build something ill do it right, even if it takes me twice as long to get it running.

i now have an owens/ihi gt30 and the mani for it so my plan is getting there allbeit gradually! B)

Roughly 35mph = 1000rpm in 6th

" There's no replacement for displacement "

I would like to add a little more displacement myself ( it would sort the JBS piston-slap I've got ) ... might be cheaper to go TFSI route: TFSI transplant ...

i would have thought the tfsi engines would have cost you alot to get in and running, you would be better going and getting a tfsi crank ,rods and pistons from integrated engineering as a stroker kit for a little over 1500 and then fit those! cheaper and proven parts and then extreamly strong to boot!

Think you're right tbh.

integrated engineering do some nice kit
