Insurance question re alloys

Featured Replies

So, and I suspect I know what an insurance company would say, if your car already has alloy wheels, and you put a different set of alloys on, is that a mod that needs declaration?

E.g. I currently have the L&K wheels that the car came with. I'm toying with getting 17" vrs spiders for summer wheels and keeping the L&K wheels for winter tyres. I'm assuming that this would be a mod?

Also, I currently run 205 55 R16 tyres. If I put (say) 205 45 R17 on spiders, is that roughly the same diameter? Thinking of speedo calibration....

As an aside, what's the standard tyre width for 17" spiders?

Cheers,

Martin

Standard tyre on Spiders are 205/50 R17

when i was looknig at changing them my insurance company said what size did they come out of the factory with (16') they then went on to explain that i could change them with ANY alloys aslong as they were 16' and same width, so the same size as oem but no bigger or smaller.

Although i then said what if i add 18' wheels.

They went on to say that the premium would only go up depending on the area it was insured in, (due to theft of wheels) but even then in the centre of Plymouth was only up by £25 per year.
