Junior sport model needed ?

Featured Replies

Does anyone think the Octavia range needs a junior sport model like the Golf GT ? If u want the 1.8TSI or 140CR engine your stuck with the Elegance or L+K which are both comfort/luxury specs. Not everyone wants a 200hp petrol engine in the vRS so why don't Skoda offer a junior sport model. Are they not allowed by VAG because it would compete with the Golf GT or Leon Sport models?

Think it would be a good idea but with the current waiting lists i don't think they need to bother!

Do u mean everyone who wants a sport type model just goes for the vRS ?

No i mean that there are waiting lists for most cars in the range, particularly the diesel. So they have enough orders to satisfy the accountants and probably couldn't cope at the moment with another model in the Octavia range!

I thought there was an Octavia Sport, with a 2.0 n/a FSI in, can't find anything official about it online though.

I would argue that the vRS is a junior sport model and what Skoda need to do is 'borrow' the 265bhp engine from VAG, upgrade the front brakes to 345mm and offer a few different exhaust and wheel options as a vRS-R version

I have a Octy Sport 2.0 TD. It's based on the ambiente model but has basically Sports suspension and 17" pegasus alloys and a boot lip spoiler and I believe the Vrs rear bumper. I believe it was produced from 2005 to 2007 as a " Special model".

That is true it was 150bhp.

They also did a 2.0tdi 140bhp.

I have one

Well the L&K 1.8 TFI is already quite stiff on it's 17" wheels so I guess it just needs brakes with a little bit more bite and a short shift stick. The gears have a good easy action, but it is too long throw for very quick changes. Yes and a little spoiler...although you can get one out of the accessories catalogue anyway (I did think about this @ the time).

Well my Elegance has got the 17" wheels and sports suspension. It perhaps just needs a GT badge to meet your requirements?

As gregoir said, there is already the option to spec sport suspension on any non Vrs Oct'y.

The sport was 1st introduced before the Vrs was launched, it was based on the Ambiente, with a few more extra's.

Some were spec'd right up, like mine B) to have the same or better levels than the Elegance.

Yep, as said - it's already been offered as a model. Don't really think they sold that many though, or was that because it was only a limited 'special' run?

I do agree though - on the FL, while they offer slightly bigger wheels and a sports suspension option, a few external tweaks would be welcome I think - as a half-way house between the normal models and the vRS. Like the pre-FL Sport really, with nicer bumpers and the rear lip spoiler.

I'm quite a fan of the Sport's spoiler instead of the vRS one.

You could turn this around really and ask why Skoda don't do a more powerful and/or 4wd vRS. I think a vRS with a choice of engine options and a choice of either 2 or 4 wheel drive would go down well amongst Skoda buyers. I'd personally like to see the 180bhp 1.4 engine in the Octy as well as a 250bhp engine of sorts or a 4x4 V6 or something.

It would be better for the insurance if they starting producing the 'Sport' model again, with the sports suspension, 17inch alloys, boot spoiler, different bumpers and interior etc, all as standard.

Some insurance companies won't cover cars with optional extra's that alter the look of the car as they think ur a boy racer and others that do bump the premium up alot. I know there are companies that are OK with optional extra's but it does limit choice when getting a quote.

Plus, it would probably be better value to buy the model ready made, rather than having to add all the extra's on yourself.

Regarding faster Octavia models than the vRS, the Seat Leon has 4 sport type specs - Sport, FR, Cupra and Cupra R. Golf has 3 - GT, GTI/D and R.

Octy has 1 !!

Glad to hear it - I have plans for one :D

That's because Seat is the supposed 'sports' brand of the VAG stable. If you want sporty choice, buy a Seat not a Skoda! Least that's what VAG want you to do :)

It's the same reason I suspect there'll never be a 'vRS-R' or whatever you want to term it, fitted with the S3 lump.

According to this article, the Octavia 3 will have a 270hp engine available:

It's bigger again though! Is there still talk of a Felicia model to fit between Fabia and Octavia, because I'd downsize to it in the future. Why keep making the next model bigger all the time?

As with anything like that - I'll believe it when I see it!

As for models getting gradually bigger - it is annoying, I'm with you on that. Some focus group tells them that's what consumers want I think! Don't see ANY need for Skoda whatsoever though. If you want something bigger - buy a Superb.
