park assist or not?

Featured Replies

I'm glad I've got rear sensors but no way I'd bother with PA. I'm a London boy by birth and see parallel parking as an Olympic sport, and nothing is better than the "you'll never get in that gap" challenge. The PA will ignore spaces I'd say were plenty big enough.

Still a cool gadget though.

I seemed to go for everything you are asking about.

I have used the parking assist (PA) a bunch of times in the last 4 weeks (how long I've had my Superb). Because the Superb is such a long car and I'm crap at parallel parking it was a must have for me.

It's not touched a curb yet and it seems to get very nicely into the curb. Closer than I could ever do.

Sound upgrade is very good. I know there are threads on here about people who have done it themselves but I think it sounds great with the upgraded sound.

Sunset glass is not as dark as some (e,.g. Ford's Mondeo) and you can see out fine. It's dark enough to keep it pleasant inside.

I've not noticed this Hill Hold Control working yet. Guess I've not stopped on big enough inclines yet to notice it.

From that statement I gather you don't have PA? Since that is rubbish! PA will get a 4,2m long Yeti into a 4,7m space (as the manual states). Yes that is 250mm left on either side. I've found that it gets me into spaces far, FAR smaller than I'd ever thought my car would fit into.

But as menioned before it does not get you OUT automatically. But you have front and rear sensors, a pictogram on the radio and different audio signals front to back, so not really a challenge either truth be told.

All extras is a bargain, do as I did, choose'em all! :)

Park assist is lovely, never mailfunction for me, but if it would, it's always you in the end, as the driver, who has the total control...

I love the SUNSET glass. You will not regret that option.

If you have kids, also consider the curtains for the rear doors.

And the electric tailgate, its so nice.

An acquaintance I know from work who is a traffic officer (WYorks Police) once told me that "dealers windows" attract their attention.

Fine if you've done nothing wrong but now they always make me wonder what people have to hide.

Question to the various park assist users. Never tried it, but one key to parallel parking is distance out from the parked cars. Most people seem in my opinion anyway to position themselves too far out into the road.

How does the park assist deal with this, or perhaps I should ask if you have to travel at a particular offset. Without thinking about it too much, I'd always assumed that the system somehow figured it all out and that distance off was just another parameter that would make the possible spaces longer or shorter.

Perhaps I should just download the manual and read that. OK RTFM. DOH

Ah right, having just downloaded manual and read instructions. Two issues spring to mind

Instruction: Drive past the parking row up to maximum 30 km/h and with a distance of 0.5 m to 1.5 m

Comment: 30kph isn't fast but 0.5m away sounds a bit close to be driving past a line of parked cars, even if 0.5m sounds an ideal distance to start the reverse parallel park from., ie door mirrors nearly touching.

Later instruction for where forward shuffle etc is needed: Please wait until the steering wheel turns automatically into the required position and then carefully drive a little forward...

Comment: Dry steering? :o Hate!!!

There is no set distance you have to be away from cars. This is just one extra parameter is uses to guide you in and as you say (with normal parking) will just lead to more or less back and forwards movements to get you in.

Hi, as i work in a skoda dealer just to let you know now that you are unable to get park assist on the superb any more.

Its still listed as an option in the brochure and on the web site, even as an option for the SE+ which launched 2 days ago.

Same on the Yeti. Blame the Japanese earthquake. Shortage of sensors now, and certain paint colours, bluetooth modules and all sorts of other bits and bobs for most all the manufacturers.

I could live without the park assist, I only added that to my order as a bonus toy, but really wanted the front & rear sensors!
