Got A Roomster For A Courtesy Car

Featured Replies

It's been a few years since I had a Roomster as a courtesy with 1.4 petrol/diesel engine. Today I got a 1.2 TSI ( all in black lettering so is this the 85 and not the 105? ), I drove a Fabia TSI 85 last year and it was quicker then the Roomster but since I have a 1.9 TDI Fabia less is speed is a shock. I tried to over take a slower car and it took a while for the turbo to kick in.

I am thinking of getting a new car in a year or so and glad to say the Roomster is still a great car but really needs a bigger engine to get it going. The courtesy car is a S version so very little toys but overall if you are looking for a ba Roomster get a bigger engine.

The problem is you have a 1.9TDI, driving the same type of car with any less of an engine just won't be as good, and it was poverty spec. I had a Fabia 1.9TDI as a long term hire a few years a go, and was very impressed with it, and glad I got the 1.9TDI in my Roomster

I had a roomster as a load car last week,it was the 1.4 tdi & the car itself was nice but that engine is terrible,so underpowered & the fuel economy was appaling.I think the 1.9 would be the one to go for.

You need to allow for the difference in power and its delivery if you choose the lower powered engine... I had a 1.9 in my '01 Fabia estate and changed it for the 80bhp 1.4 after 5 years... The 1.4 definitely had less "go" but it was perfectly ok if you allowed for that... Having said that i do agree that 70bhp is far too little for the Roomster, which is a much bulkier car and needs the extra horses to force its way along...

If you read the Fabia threads they have several of the Greenline which has the 75bhp 1.2 TDi and that seems to be ok...

Its all about adjusting your driving to suit the engine rather than expecting the engine to suit your driving, far too many people these days just aren't capable of that and blame the car... poor workman blaming his tools springs to mind...
