Number plate bulbs

Featured Replies

Was following a BMW X5 yesterday and noticed the No. plate bulbs were almost xenon looking..

Anyone know what bulbs I would need for my vRS octy to achieve this look???

I quite liked it.

I'm not sure if these are available yet for the FL? IIRC Superskoda hadn't got them anyway-I don't know what the difference is TBH.

If you go ahead and get yourself some of these could you stick a before and after picture up please, would be interested what this looks like :)

Make sure that the bulbs are 38mm if you buy 36mm ones they will be too short.

Should acheive a look similar to mine!

Fitted with 3 SMD LED's

36mm is fine! Remember thats the overall length of the bulb, The contacts are narrower, 38/39mm puts too much strain on the contacts.

You can also gently tease the contacts inwards if there's a bit of play in the fitment!

BMW (and Lexus) have been fitting these for a few years now. I tried a few on the Fabia but never found a set that lasted a decent length of time. Luck of the draw I suppose...

As Mike says, I've never tried a set on the Octy because of the CANBUS system. Didn't seem worth it.

Would be interested in what BMW and Lexus fit as OEM though, if anyone has access to a suitable vehicle! Curious to see if they employ similar LED festoons, or if the entire number plate light assembly is different.

I have the Superskoda ones on my pre FL for six months now with no issues. I do think the FL is different somehow, as the following is in the description:

*** WARNING LIGHT WILL BE LIGHTNING IF BEING INSTALLED ON THE FACELIFT (09-12) VERSION !!! ***

Will SMD lights like these be made available for the facelift Octavia II?

oh yeh got them from www.xenonwhite.de had them in the car and van over 3 years now not a single problem and i run with my lights on all the time in the van.

Highly recommended.

Did they fit those xenon-type bulbs as std to your previous 5 Grizzle? Just wondering if you're the one who can tell me what they use :)

3yrs for your ones does sound like decent longevity though. Do like how they look, but get some more pics once it gets dark

they use something like this but not as many LEDS

Cheers for that. Only thing I don't like with that type is they look pretty bright, a bit too bright for just illuminating the plate maybe? And that they tend to illuminate the bumper, and the ground as well...
