Columbus Query

Right then you lot - I know this is laziness but can anyone tell me how to turn the radio off when I activate the navigation function without turning down the girly nav voice ??

Sometimes I just want to concentrate on what im being told and not hear the radio but so far whilst driving I have not worked out how to turn mucis off and leave the nav voice on ??

A crackerjack pencil to the first one with the right answer !

:giggle:

Turn the radio down and the nav will speak at whatever volume it was when last used. If it isn't loud enough adjust the volume whilst she is talking.

You can also set in the menu but the above is the easiest way as i find i am making frequent adjustments.

yep, turning the radio down and/or muting it make no difference to the nav audio, this is still played at the volume already defined.

When I first got my Octy Scout with Columbus I asked the dealer if it was possible to have the navigation on and the radio off. I'm still waiting for an answer two and a half years later, but I think I've worked out that the answer is no - you have to mute the radio if you don't want it on while being guided by Columbus.

Hmmm because I turned the radio down tonight and it turned the nav down too, hence my question !

Better try it again. Are there a choice of voices as well or do I need to read the manual lol ??

Go into the volume setup menu and adjust the 'minimum navigation voice' level and even when the radio is muted/off the nav will still be audible.

I can't remember the exact wording on the menu system but it is something like that, annoyingly I haven't got a single Columbus unit on site that I can test right now!

You can adjust the volume of the satnav voice while it is speaking using the volume control on the unit or the steering wheel - it will then stay at that level. That may be why you lost volume, if the voice was speaking while you turned the radio down.

I'm not aware that you can change the voice - but I like her: just a nice touch of severity!

I was after the same, but to start up with zero radio/media volume. I have changed the start up volume to zero, but it isn't zero. I can still hear the radio whispering in the background.

Sometimes I get it wrong with turning the radio down and time it wrong, turning down the telephone volume, or the nav volume instead.

You can set all the start up volumes in the tone/volume setting area.

Other than turning down the volume, how do you mute the radio?

Use the mute button!

What mute button on the radio page?

I don't know of a mute button? I have always turned it right down, and it shows as muted, then.

It took me a while to get the voice vol balances right. I have the nav set so it mutes the radio when she speaks - it is amazing how often it happens that something interesting is being said at that moment - like a joke punch line! Irritating - there you go!

On my Columbus there ia mute icon that appears in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen (and there's one on the multifunction steering wheel as well, if you have that option).

It's just a pity she can't pronounce half of the towns round here :giggle:

I do just LOVE posts like these.

People who must have the latest gimmics and gadgets and then find that either they can't work them or the gadgets don't behave like they are expected to.

We have had headlights that waggle when they shouldn't, wipers that wipe when it is not raining, roofs and windows that open in the middle of the night and now radios that shout when the Sat Nav is leading you up some back alley.

Now where did I put my winter tyres and Snow Socks?:giggle:

True - but it makes a good game trying to work out where she's talking about!

No chance around here then!! :giggle:

That would be hilarious. Just think of how the English voice mangles the scandinavian language place names - No Danish on the Columbus. Fortunately only turn directions are given, not destination names.

Alas no mute button on the steering wheel for us Elegance Snow Monster drivers. Can't vouch for non telephone equipped models with Columbus though....

Not noticed a mute button on the tool bar in radio mode.

Only see a mute symbol top left somewhere when volume turned down to zero. Also when media on there is a mute button, but not for the radio.

Yes, apologies - I've had a look at my unit this evening and I must have been dreaming about the on-screen mute button: it's just on the steering wheel.

I used the mute button on my Octavia to work the oem telephone system I fitted.

Alas there is no mute button on Elsie.

Was wondering on changing her name to Helipad emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

If you have the multi function steering wheel, clicking the volume control in will mute radio or CD. Don't know if this affects the Sat Nav, haven't tried.

This might work with the Bolero, but with the Columbus it switches on voice activation.......
